Turkey Tacos

a4

Anyone else dealing with a fridge full of leftover turkey? While I love a good Pilgrim Sandwich, it’s nice to move beyond the usual after-Thanksgiving meals. This recipe for Turkey Tacos is a welcome change of pace! The ingredient list is short and sweet, plus they can be assembled in a flash. My recipe eliminates the cheese and sour cream found in most Mexican recipes, so it’s suitable for the Jewish kitchen.

To make Turkey Tacos, you will need:

  • 2 Cups leftover turkey, shredded.   (White, Dark, or a mix of meat can be used.)
  • 1 Jar salsa   (Medium is my fav.)
  • 1 Cup corn   (I used frozen.)
  • 1 Cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 Avocados, diced
  • 2 Tbs. taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • Juice of a lime
  • 1 Tbs. chili flakes
  • Salt/Pepper to taste
  • 1 Box taco shells  (I used hard shells since I had those on hand. Soft shells would also be great.)

In a medium bowl, mix the avocado, corn, tomatoes, lime juice, salt/pepper, and chili flakes. Set aside. Warm the cooked turkey, taco seasoning and water until heated in a skillet, stirring occasionally. When the turkey mixture is done, add it to the mixing bowl and spoon into taco shells (shells can be warmed in the oven if you wish. I was feeling lazy and didn’t). Top with salsa.

In my experience, a small family easily split a box of tacos, so if you’re feeding a big crowd, I suggest doubling the recipe. Turkey Tacos can be paired with a chopped salad and Mexican rice for a complete meal.

How do you deal with Thanksgiving leftovers?

My Experience With Michael Todd True Organics Soniclear

a2

The wonderful folks at Michael Todd True Organics sent me a Soniclear to review.

The Soniclear is a revolutionary brush that cleans your skin deeply, removing the dirt and impurities that accumulate on our skin during the day. In addition to the facial brush, Soniclear has a body brush, making it possible for your entire body to be as clean and fresh as your face. Both brushes are antimicrobial, which is very important since less bacteria on the brushes equals cleaner, softer, smoother skin.

Having seen similar facial brushes and hearing many success stories, I was really quite intrigued to give the Soniclear a try. I received it on a Monday, charged it for the recommended 24 hours, and used it Tuesday night. It comes with a kit that includes:

  • 1 Soniclear Device
  • 1 Antimicrobial Face Brush for All Skin Types with Cover
  • 1 Antimicrobial Body Brush for All Skin Types with Cover
  • 1 Charging Stand
  • 1 Charging Cord

According to the Michael Todd True Organics website, “Soniclear removes makeup 6X better and cleanses 2X better than washing with hands alone.” After trying it myself, I certainly agree! Usually, I wash my face twice in a row, but the Soniclear cleaned so well I didn’t have to. My skin felt squeaky clean, but not stripped in any way.

There are multiple settings that can be customized to your desired level of cleansing:

Speed  Light
FACE
top speed

Both red lights on

5th speed

Top red light on

4th speed

Bottom red light on

BODY
3rd speed

Both red light blinking

2nd speed

Top red light blinking

Low speed

Bottom red light blinking

As you can see from this chart—which is included with every kit—it’s very easy to understand and operate. After a minute, the device automatically shuts down, removing any guesswork.

I continued to use Soniclear for the rest of the week, experimenting with different speeds. I like 4th Speed, which is for sensitive skin, the best. The brush does all the work and you barely have to press. After 7 consecutive nights, I noticed a remarkable difference in texture. My skin is normally smooth, but this made it feel baby-soft.

Having seen such good results on my face, I then tried it on my body. The results were awesome! It really helps on dry spots like knees, elbows, and feet. It’s waterproof and being able to take it into the shower is so convenient!

Super Savings Saturday – 11/29

Updated on 11/30 with additional deals and pics.

Welcome to the Black Friday edition of Super Savings Saturday!

It’s always my busiest and best week of shopping, but also the most exhausting. Training and competing in the “Coupon Olympics” is no easy task! I shopped Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I may go back again today, depending on my energy level. If I do, I will update to include any additional goodies.

CVS – 11/23:

a2

I started bright and early on Sunday, getting to the CVS parking lot at 6:58AM. I was the second one thru the door. My store had every item with 100% rebate in stock, except for the Migralex headache medicine. My huge haul included:

Advil, Reese’s, Tricalm, training pants, baby wipes, combos, Colgate, Robitussin, Green Giant corn, Rescue gum, sour patch gum, Wrigley’s gum, Twix, Starbucks espresso shot, vitamin water, CVS laundry soap, panty liners, and Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese.

I rolled my items from the cheapest to most expensive, opting for the lowest OOP. I ended up spending $6.80 and I left with $9.99 ECBs!

Walgreens – 11/23:

I was at Walgreens by 8:30, going directly from CVS. Walgreens was doing a split ad like CVS. This was a medium haul that included:

Reach toothbrushes, NeilMed nasal bulbs, OTC antacids, Urgent Rx, Scope, MG217 shampoo, and Healthy delight multi vitamins. I used the $0.20 gift bags as fillers. I spent $7.90 and left with a $7.00 Register Reward.

By 10:30AM, I had finished Sunday’s shopping. It was a gold medal day for sure and I came home with bags of treats and necessities!

Walgreens – 11/25:

Tuesday was an absolute nightmare! I had completely forgotten that I’d signed up months ago for a continuing education class to renew my professional license. I really didn’t feel like spending 4 hours there when I wanted to shop, but I went because I had to. Big mistake! I encountered an extremely negative, angry, condescending and nasty individual within 5 mins of arriving. It took every bit of my self control to remain calm. Somehow I did and was never so happy to leave in my life! After class, I went to Walgreens to roll my Register Rewards from Sunday. These were the items I bought:

It was basically a repeat of Sunday, and the only additional item was Max Freeze pain gel. I went into Walgreens in a wretched mood and I left extremely happy. Being able to roll deals and talk to all of the cashiers I know and love is awesome. It really pulled me out of a funk.

I would rate Tuesday a silver medal for couponing.

CVS – 11/27:

Here in New England, we experienced a massive snowstorm on Wednesday night. Bad weather derailed my schedule and attitude! I was dressed and ready to leave by 6:30AM, but the snow plow driver hadn’t arrived. After multiple calls and a ton of aggravation, I stopped waiting for him, put my Pathfinder in 4-wheel drive and crossed my fingers. Both the vehicle and I made it to CVS alive!

The CVS Thanksgiving ad was very small. I bought Viva, Reese’s, batteries, Gum toothbrushes, and orbit gum. I used the $9.99 ECB from Sunday, paid nothing and left with more Bucks!

Rite Aid:

Out of the 3 drugstores, Rite Aid was the worst. They didn’t have a split ad, so it was limited to begin with, and in-store was severely lacking. Many of the deals were out of stock and I had to accept rain checks. You can’t roll transaction there, so I just cherry-picked the best ones. My haul included:

Bath puff, panty liners, Bumble Bee Tuna, Lay’s Stax chips, cough drops, cotton swaps, mini mouthwash, and Russell Stover’s candy.

On the upside, the store was completely empty and I had time to visit with all the cashiers and the store manager. I absolutely adore the Rite Aid crew! Bronze level haul, gold medal atmosphere.

a5

Walgreens:

This haul was the Big Daddy! I had been dreaming of the Venus razors and free Dove hair care for weeks. My store had extras of most everything and I was able to shop til I dropped! I bought all of these goodies, spaced over 20 transactions:

Crest 3D, Scunci hair elastics, Dove, Venus, Urgent Rx, Oral B toothbrush, Walgreens tampons, Advil, Speed stick, Purell, Max Free, OTC antacid, Fungi cure, NeilMed nasal spray, Robitussin, Listerine pocket paks, and Healthy Delight vitamins.

a4

As a filler item, I used $0.56 rolls of paper towels, ending up with a year’s supply! Gold Medal event!

At that point on Thanksgiving, I’d been on my feet for about 6 hours and I was in need of a break. I stopped at home briefly, drank an espresso shot, and then went back out again to Shaw’s for ice cream and crumb cake (the necessities, right?!).

After a little rest and a festive meal, I was reinvigorated! I popped into Staples, scoring a coupon for 25 free holiday cards. Both Walmart and Target were completely swamped, so that wasn’t even an option. Hungry Bear and I went to the mall together and did a quick sweep of Sears, but didn’t buy anything. I wanted to keep going but my lower back and feet were begging me to stop, so we wisely called it quits.

Rite Aid – 11/29:

After I published Super Savings Saturday, I decided to go shopping again (I know, it’s pure insanity!). I went to a Rite Aid in a neighboring town which had everything in stock and found more freebies. I was able to roll my UP Rewards from Thursday and paid only $0.33 out of pocket. This haul included:

Listerine floss refills, light bulb, socks, toothbrushes, Russell Stovers candy, bath puff, Conair hairbrush, Nivea tin, and gift wrap tape.

a4

Walgreens:

This was my 4th and final trip to Walgreens and I scored another mega haul with an additional 20 transactions! Many of these items were repeats from earlier hauls. The items included:

Walgreens tampons, Robitussin, Crest 3D, Urgent Rx, Oral B toothbrushes, nasal spray, Max Freeze roll on, Healthy Delight vitamins, Outback, and an unreal amount of Scunci hair elastics!

Final Totals for the entire Black Friday week:

Walgreens: $15.88 out of pocket, $14.50 Register Rewards!

Rite Aid: $17.33 out of pocket, $18.59 UP Rewards!

CVS: $6.80 out of pocket, $12.96 Extra Care Bucks!

Are you exhausted reading about my adventures? I’m surprised I was able to do it all! There were difficult moments for sure, but in the end, every bit was worth it.

Black Friday Deal: $1 Designer Nail Polish!

$1 Polish Black Friday

I haven’t bought many of the Black Friday deals, but $1.00 designer nail polish is simply too good to pass up, especially when the normal price is $14.00! (If you like dark red, look for shade “Anisa,” which is my favorite.)

Julep is offering this deal until 11/30, but certain colors may sell out.  Purchase of another item is required, so look for something small. Use coupon code ONE at checkout.
