Fran Drescher’s New Sitcom

Love her or hate her—and I love her!—Fran Drescher is instantly recognizable for her distinctive look and voice. I have been a fan since she starred on The Nanny, so I’m very excited that she’s starring in a new sitcom called Indebted.

Fran will be playing Linda Levin and her on-screen husband “Stew” will be played by Steven Weber. The plot sounds kind of corny but definitely relevant: Aging Boomer parents have to move in with their Millennial kids and grandkids due to excessive debt and medical bills/issues. And, yes, the family is Jewish, of course!

While I recognize that over 20 years has passed since she was playing a nanny, it’s hard to imagine that Fran Drescher is old enough to be a grandmother (that makes me feel ancient, yikes). She still looks very pretty though.

Some of her acting can be over the top, sure, but I love how she’s not afraid of the JAP stereotype and will use her real-life experience for a laugh. I’d much rather watch something silly and stupid, these days, instead of the depressing news that’s on 24/7.

I hope the show is a huge success.

High Rates of Cystic Fibrosis in Jewish Community

If you’re a member of the Ashkenazi Jewish community, your risk of carrying the gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis is 1 in 25. Folks, that statistic shocked me! Even worse: If both parents are carriers, children have a 1 in 4 chance of inheriting the disease. That is truly frightening, and quite frankly, is not well known.

The Jewish Journal recently published an extensive article about Cystic Fibrosis—what it is, what treatment is available, obstacles that sufferers face, and advances that may lead to a cure. Many individuals were interviewed, and their experiences are absolutely heartbreaking (average lifespan is only 40).

I would encourage everyone to read it. Chances are, you may know someone who has it. A lot of the side effects of this disease make people self-conscious, so it’s not always talked about.

Very important info that could save a life and may influence a couple’s decision to choose extensive genetic testing.

Would You Buy Marilyn Monroe’s Menorah?

A menorah that belonged to Marilyn Monroe will be auctioned off this Thursday. Experts are predicting it could sell for $150,000. While this is definitely a one-of-a-kind piece, that’s a lot of money.

According to the description, it’s brass-plated and plays Israel’s National anthem.

Most people would love to own a bit of history, yet there are always a few haters. I was so sad to see negative comments claiming Marilyn wasn’t a “real Jew, just a convert.” Not only is that inaccurate, it’s offensive. That’s the same trash that used to be said about Elizabeth Taylor and is now said about Ivanka Trump.

A Jew by choice is just as valuable as a Jew by heritage. There should never be a distinction or divide. We are one people; we need to love and support each other.

Burning Man Festival Displays Sickening “Barbie Concentration Camp”

Burning Man is an annual festival that celebrates—and encourages—extremely uncivilized behavior. One part counter-culture and one part perversion, it’s a mind-bending mix of obscenity, drugs, orgies, and strange art. Basically, if it’s vulgar, Burning Man welcomes it.

There’s offensive, which some argue should be allowed, and then there’s truly disgusting and dangerous. They crossed the line with an outrageous display of anti-Semitism. An “artist” (and I say that in quotes because this is not art), who claims to be Jewish, created a display that depicts a Barbie Concentration Camp. It features hundreds of nude dolls entering kitchen ovens as GI Joe dolls hold them at gunpoint.

A sign above it claims that the installation was created by “Mattel and Auschwitz Inc., Purveyors of Fine Lampshades and Soap Products Since 1939.” (Mattel, of course, had nothing to do with this nonsense and the toy company has been defamed. I hope they sue!)

The display was so offensive that a handful of event goers attempted to destroy it and threatened the artist as well. An argument ensued, someone’s car was vandalized and an arrest was made.

Mr. Jacoby (the artist) claims to be mystified at the outrage. “Anyone who is offended should ignore it,” adding that he considered the repulsive display to be an “aphrodisiac,” demonstrating that he’s mentally ill and disturbed sexually.

Burning Man organizers should be ashamed of themselves to peddle such filth! I would never, ever attend such a weirdo, nasty event to begin with, but this level of anti-Semitism is criminal.

Don’t go, don’t let your kids go, and hopefully, this nightmare will end up bankrupt.
