A Chihuahua is an Essential Part of My Life Journey

This post is sponsored by True Chews® Dog Treats and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I’m being compensated to help share information about the True Chews line of all-natural dog treats, but The Jewish Lady only shares information I feel is relevant to readers. All statements made reflect my true opinion of the product .True Chews is not responsible for the content of this article.

Anyone who is blessed to have a Chihuahua in their home knows how much joy, love, and laughter these little guys bring! I can’t even begin to imagine how much duller life would be without Charlie. No matter what’s going on, he always makes it better—probably because we love going on journeys together.

Recently, I planned out a full day of activities for us, starting at one of his favorite places in the whole world—PetSmart. He enjoys interacting with other dogs that we meet and I like going through the aisles and displays, checking out new clothes, toys, and foods.

Because Charlie is considered a special member of the family, as opposed to just a pet, I am very careful about only buying the highest quality products that are healthy and safe. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised to find True Chews® Dog Treats.

As you can see from this display, they have an enormous variety of treats to choose from. I carefully looked over the packages, making sure it was appropriate for my fur baby. It so awesome to find these great features:

  • No Corn, Wheat or Soy
  • No Artificial Flavors
  • No Artificial Preservatives
  • No Animal By‑Products
  • Natural Ingredients
  • USA-Sourced Chicken
  • Made in the USA (very important to because I avoid anything from China)

It was really hard to narrow it down, but I ended up with Chicken Pot Pie Recipe and Premium Jerky Cuts, so he could try two different flavors and textures. Then, we headed over to a Nature Preserve to walk and play in the warm sunshine.

Charlie is 14-years-old now and struggles with dental issues, so anything that’s too hard will not work for him. I figured the Pot Pie would be okay, but I was really curious about the Jerky. I’m happy to report that it’s thin, flexible, and easy to tear, which is perfect for senior dogs.

In addition to the excellent texture, he loved the taste, and ate one of each! Based on these hearty ingredients, it’s no wonder:

Pot Pie: Chicken, Potatoes, Vegetable Glycerin, Peas, Carrots, Natural Flavors, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Paprika.

Jerky: Chicken, Vegetable Glycerin, Natural Flavors, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Natural Smoke Flavor, Paprika.

After two lovely hours, we went to our final journey at the beach. There is truly nothing nicer than sitting on a blanket at dusk, feeling a cool sea breeze and watching the waves. Charlie did get very sandy, but it was worth it to see the delight in his beautiful eyes.

Life’s Journeys sure are better with a Chihuahua by my side. Since he is so amazing to me, I want to return the favor. Giving him True Chews Dog Treats is something we can both feel good about.

Want to get some True Chews for your fur baby? They’re available at pet specialty stores, such as PetSmart, Petco, and Chewy.com, as well as neighborhood pet stores (they’re not sold in grocery stores). Use their store locator to find them near you.

Super Savings Saturday – 10/21/17

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

This week offered a good variety of low price deals—candy, snacks, makeup and some actual food. The only bummer was missing out on free Irish Spring bar soap at Rite Aid. I did get a rain check, but they are so slow to re-stock, it will be a loooooooong wait.

Shaw’s:

Top round steak, sale price $1.99/lb. Total price: $15.43! (Because this type of beef is a tougher cut, I like to chop it up and then make into a stew or soup.)

Gala apples, sale price $0.77/lb. Total: $5.19! (I would’ve bought less, but the price was only good for a mini tote.)

Sweet potatoes, sale price $0.88/lb. Total: $2.78!

Walgreens:

4 Trolli, sale price $1.99. Total: $7.96 plus $7.96 Register Rewards! (Specifically for Halloween and I’m hiding it from the rest of the family so they don’t gobble it all up early.)

CVS:

Physician’s Formula lip gloss, regular price $10.49. I used a $4.00 manufacturer’s coupon and a $4.50 ECB. Total: $1.99 plus a $7.00 ECB!

2 Gold Emblem Rice Pop Clusters, regular price $1.00. I used a $2.00/2 store coupon. Total: Free!

Make Laundry Better with Energy Star Appliances

Let’s face it: Doing laundry is a drag, but it’s also a necessary part of life (and something most of us are doing constantly). Instead of dreading the chore, I try to find ways to make it better. That’s why I love Energy Star certified appliances. They’re better for your clothes, better for you and your family, and better for the environment. Oh, and did I mention they have a lot of money, too! Here’s why:

Better for you – Energy Star certified clothes washers and dryers deliver superior efficiency and performance by incorporating advanced features that save energy. Compared to standard machines, they are much more efficient and can save $490 over their lifetime, which is a great savings for most families.

Better for the environment – Saving energy means that these washers and dryers help protect the climate, benefitting kids and the planet for years to come. Over the lifetime of the product, these washers save 1,100 kWh and more than 2.5 million BTUs of natural gas and 33,000 gallons of water. If all washers sold in the U.S. were Energy Star certified, we would save more than $4 billion each year and prevent more than 19 billion pounds of carbon pollution annually. This is equal to the emissions from 1.7 million vehicles.

Better for clothes – These washers use a variety of sophisticated cleaning methods that are gentler and the dryers use less heat and offer sensor drying which reduces wear and tear on clothes.

Plus, look at all the cool features:

Energy Star Washers

    • Multiple configurations – Available in either front-load or redesigned top-load.
    • Sophisticated wash systems – Top-load machines clean clothing just like standard models without wasting water to fill up the tub. Instead, these machines use sophisticated wash systems to cycle clothes through a mixture of water and detergent, allowing the clothes to be cleaned without using excess.
    • No central agitator – Front-load machines tumble clothes through a small amount of water instead of rubbing clothes against an agitator, while advanced top-load machines lift and tumble clothes through a reduced stream of water. Both designs dramatically reduce the amount of hot water and energy used in the wash cycle.
    • High spin speed – Efficient motors spin clothes two to three times faster to extract more water. Less moisture in the clothes means less time in the dryer and less energy spent drying clothes.

Energy Star Dryers

  • Low Heat Setting –  Look for the cycle that uses the least amount of energy, sometimes known as the “energy-saving” selection.
  • Sensor Dry – Prevent extra wear on fabric from over-drying.
  • Steam Cycles – Help save time on ironing clothes by preventing wrinkles.

Wondering where you can purchase an Energy Star certified washer or dryer? Head over to Best Buy. They have lots of models available at great prices and more information to help you select the ideal appliance for your home.

Matan: Assisting Jewish Kids with Special Needs

Parenting a special needs child comes with a huge range of difficulties, particularly when it comes to that child’s education. While most public schools have programs available, many Jewish organizations don’t.

Matan is dedicated to changing that. They help Jewish programs include kids & teens with disabilities, offer director and teacher-level training, community consultation, educational resources and webinars.

When you see the statistics, it is crystal-clear why this type of help is so desperately needed:

  • 15% – 20% of children and youth ages 3–21 have a diagnosed learning disability
  • 1 in 68 children in the United States has an Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • 200,000 students in the Jewish community have special needs

Imagine how many children, through no fault of their own, are falling into the cracks, being ignored, under-served, and/or marginalized. Truly, truly sad and shocking! Since these children are the future of the Jewish community, we must make a strong effort to reach out to them and to their parents, giving them the tools that they need to succeed.
