One-Pan Rosh Hashanah Chicken Dinner

Don’t have the time or energy to cook a huge meal for Rosh Hashanah? This recipe for a One-Pan Chicken Dinner from the Boston Globe has got to be the easiest holiday meal I’ve ever seen.

It contains a delicious mix of white and dark chicken pieces, shallots, carrots, honey, and apricots, along with various spices and braising liquids. Using standard orange carrots along with purples ones makes such a colorful plate.

If you’re not an experienced cook, first time host, or otherwise nervous about cooking/entertaining, a one-pan meal is nearly foolproof and will significantly cut down on stress and chaos in the kitchen.

Super Savings Saturday – 9/9/17

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

Many of you may be wondering where this series has been lately. The short answer is “on hiatus for the summer.” The long answer? Well, let’s just say that between the heat, humidity, not feeling well, doing home renovations, a vacation, and lots of activities, there was little time for couponing. Rest assured, I am back to deal shopping and if you enjoy seeing the cheapies and freebies I feature weekly, they are coming back in full force.

Shaw’s:

Every Saturday morning, they release new My Mixx digital coupons which are either free or BOGO.

Sabra organic hummus, regular price $3.99. Total: Free with coupon.

2 baby carrots, sale price $0.99 for a 1-lb bag. Total: $1.98. (Perfect snack with the hummus.)

Broccoli, sale price $0.99/lb. Total: $0.87! (I would’ve bought much more, had it been in stock.)

Yoplait Mix-Ins yogurt, regular price $1.79. Total: Free with coupon. (The flavor was good, but I think these are so overpriced normally.)

Rite Aid:

There were supposed to be a bunch of free oral care products using the digital Load2Card coupons. Of course, none of them worked. (So frustrating!) The manager was nice enough to adjust it manually, but it was a hassle.

Crest toothpaste, sale price $4.00. I used a $2.00 store coupon. Total: $2.00 plus $2.00 Plenti Points!

Oral B glide floss, sale price $4.00. I used a $1.00 store coupon. Total: $3.00 plus $2.00 Plenti Points!

Oral B toothbrush, sale price $4.00. I used a $1.00 store coupon. Total: $3.00 plus $3.00 Plenti Points!

Fall Fashion Trends: Zodiac Style

What does fashion have to do with your Zodiac sign? According to Elle, it’s a new trend for fall.

For my sign (Sagittarius), they picked these items, based around a Menswear theme—Tibi Aldrich blazer, Sanctuary Bootcamp cargo pants, J.Crew sweater, and Malone Souliers ankle boots.

My verdict? 3 out of 5 stars. I love sweater and would definitely buy/wear it. The cargo pants are ok, but nothing spectacular. The jacket is horrible and the boots while cute are not practical for daily use.

I’d rather shop for classic, elegant pieces that look good and last for years, rather than pile on tons of trends. Even so, I look forward to Elle and Vogue’s September issues to gawk at all the wild stuff and (hopefully) find a few things that would work for my style.
