Making Passover More Environmentally Friendly

Specialty items, extravagant menus, tons of leftover food, and then needing to restocking the kitchen afterwards—Passover can be a very wasteful time, if we’re not careful.

Foodtank has created a list of 7 ways to create a more sustainable Passover, with great tips like eating locally, preventing food waste, meatless options, and much more.

A few things I’d add to the list: Reducing or eliminating paper plates/napkins; using mobile or audio Haggadahs; and/or eating whole, naturally parve foods instead of paying extra for “Kosher for Passover” items.

We all want to celebrate, and that’s an important thing, but there’s no reason to throw good sense out the window entirely. Let’s strive for a reasonable balance between the two.

Passover Game Giveaway

The holiday countdown is on! Even though I’m racing to put the finishing touches on tonight’s Seder, there is always time for a wonderful giveaway. This one is from 613 Games, designed especially for Passover.

Back in January, I did a giveaway for the TorahLine™ Exodus from Egypt card game, which was the first in a series. Now, an expansion pack is available that can be used as a companion piece for the original. Since the first giveaway was so popular, it’s such a joy to offer another one.

This quick, fun, and informative game allows you to learn Torah in only 15 minutes. Sounds perfect for youngsters, short attention spans, and those who are short on time (basically every Jewish family on the planet)!

Both games will be front and center tonight at my house, making our festivities extra special.

The Passover Game Giveaway will have TWO winners, but the turnaround is quick: it will only be open thru 4/18.

Super Savings Saturday – 4/8/17

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

This week was a strange one. In the span of 6 hours, a bedframe broke, the Roku broke, and I dropped a glass bottle that shattered red liquid everywhere…

After such insanity, it was a relief to grab my coupon folder and list and get out of the house. Naturally, I had to make a Starbucks run on the way, too. The results are a hodge podge of cosmetics and food, but everything will be used and enjoyed—what’s left of it, anyway. (Yes, we seem to go through items at lighting speed around here.)

Hannaford:

2 enormous bunches of fresh broccoli, sale price $0.99/lb. Total: $4.41!

I also found an unadvertised Manager’s Special for oranges. They were priced 4/$1.00. I bought 20, because that was the max I could fit in the fridge. Total: $5.00!

Rite Aid:

I have a reward good for one free bagel every day in April. So far, I’ve enjoyed a plain and a blueberry.

5 Paleo Tuna Recipes (Passover Approved)

With so many dietary restrictions, cooking for Passover can be tricky. Around here, it seems like baked chicken and potatoes with a green veggie is eaten day…after…day! (So boring, I know.) Instead of the usual chicken, why not swap it out for tuna? It’s just as tasty, and while not quite as versatile, it can still be a yummy lunch or dinner.

I found all of these recipes in the “Paleo Tuna” category. For anyone not familiar, Paleo diets restrict wheat and grains, so they’re perfect for Passover!

Homemade Interest has a great recipe for a Stuffed Tomato Tuna Melt.

Hannaford’s Red Pepper Tuna Salad Boats are a nice way to jazz up a plain salad into something special.

Little Miss Fit has created some cool Paleo Tuna Burgers that use almond flour (very handy if you bought a bag to make a Passover cake and need to use it up!).

Cook Eat Paleo made some super cute Avocado Tuna Salad cups that only need 4 ingredients.

Primal Palate has a delish Baked Tuna Steak with Chimichurri Marinade.
