Super Savings Saturday – 3/19/16

noxbaa

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was all about Rite Aid. Seriously, they had so many cheapies, I didn’t have to shop anywhere else. Of course, no trip every goes perfectly… Some coupon sites had mentioned a high value Infusium 23 coupon that would’ve made for free shampoo. I tried printing it from 3 different devices and it never worked! Since I have tons of haircare already, it’s not a huge deal, but coupons that don’t print are annoying. Instead, I found all of these awesome items:

Renu twin pack, sale price $9.99. I used a $4.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $5.99, plus $3.00 Plenti Points! (I prefer a sensitive contact lens solution, but my sister likes this so I got it for her.)

2 Betty Crocker boxed potatoes, sale price $1.50. I used a $1.00/2 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $2.00, plus $1.00 Plenti Points! (These are for the food pantry.)

2 Glad air fresheners, on sale $0.99. I used 2 $0.75 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.24 each!

2 Noxzema razors, sale price $3.49. I used 2 $2.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $1.49 each, with $1.00 Plenti Points!

2 Scunci kids clips, regular price $1.99. Total: $3.98, plus $3.00 Plenti Points! (A fun addition for a Purim basket.)

Pear: Find Sponsorships for Your Child

Get up to $1000 for your Youth Soccer Team from Ritz Bits

Playing sports is a great activity for kids. It keeps them fit, builds self-esteem, and encourages teamwork. It’s also very expensive!

Pear can help defray the costs. They’re currently running a sponsorship program with NABISCO Multipacks that’s offering up to $1,000 for custom apparel or equipment for youth soccer teams (ages 6-18).

Their site is both free and simple. To start, create a group page by uploading a team photo. Then, invite friends and family to support your team. Your group has ten days to complete short online tasks, such as liking Facebook pages. The more people who engage, the more money your team is awarded; it’s that easy. At the end of your sponsorship, simply claim your award and Pear will help you find a printer to get your order produced at.

Sounds like a fantastic program to me!

Festive Purim Drinks

th46MIUJUY

Purim is an extremely fun and festive holiday—we feast, we wear costumes, we exchange gift baskets, and we are encouraged to imbibe. Personally, I see nothing wrong with drinking responsibly at a social occasion. One or two drinks per adult, provided they’re not driving, shouldn’t be a problem.

For a small party or a couple, a bottle of wine or champagne could be the right option. When serving a crowd, however, it becomes more complicated. As we all know, alcohol is expensive and if you don’t drink regularly, you may end up with too much product and no use for it. There’s an easy way to avoid this: Be selective and stretch it.

By being selective, I mean buying only one type of alcohol. By stretching, mix it with other ingredients. Two good options are a party punch or wine spritzers. Food Network has tons of different punch recipes. This prosecco punch, created by Trisha Yearwood, looks very pretty!

Wine spritzers are so simple to make. Simply combine 3 parts wine with one part club soda in a pitcher, then divide evenly into glasses. A citrus twist is also a nice touch, but not required.

To make sure nobody is left out, I think it’s important to make soft drinks available too (a few 2-liters of soda plus some sparkling cider). Kids and adults who don’t drink will appreciate it.

Remember: The idea is to celebrate, not to become belligerent, sloppy, or a danger to yourself/others. Many bad things can happen when too much alcohol is involved. Please be careful!

Thanks to My Readers, I’m Now Hooked on “Empire”

thAQY4DTKK

I love learning from my readers. When I posted about what TV shows I’d been enjoying and asked for suggestions, multiple people mentioned Empire. I’d heard a lot about Fox’s smash hit, but I never found the time to watch. (I’m bad about tuning in weekly. I’d much rather get the DVD and binge).

Wouldn’t you know it, I was browsing at my local library and they had just bought Season 1. Not only did I get to see the show from the beginning, I also got to watch it for free, at my leisure. Nice, huh?

After watching, I understand what all the fuss was about. Empire truly is super with great actors, an engrossing storyline, and smart writing. While I don’t really like hip hop music, I did like the characters. Cookie is my favorite. Seriously, look at her style. I can’t get over the clothes, furs, wigs, etc, and her one-liners are hysterical. (“Not everybody can handle the streets, that’s why they made sidewalks.)

So, now I’m hooked on the urban soap opera and can’t wait to watch the next season. Thanks again, dear readers, for this tip and the many others you give me all the time.
