3 Goals for Friday

z1

When I posted my cleaning challenge, it was very helpful—not just because it was a daily, detailed list, but also because it gave me public accountability to actually follow through. Since that worked so well, I’m trying it again, only this time it’s a much less ambitious list.

Here are my 3 goals for Friday:

1. Box Removal

Between Hanukkah and my birthday, we have so many boxes hanging around (they’re piled up into a huge mountain in a corner of the den. So bad, I know!). I need to remove all labels/tape, cut them flat, stack, and take them to the recycling center.

2. Write & Send Thank You Cards

Before too much time passes after Hanukkah, I want to make sure these go into the mail. I know not everyone has the time or interest to send paper cards, but I think a present deserves a tangible thanks. Also, it’s good practice for littles ones and seems to keep entitlement complexes at bay.

3. Make a Chinese Feast for Shabbos

I love to make a special dinner for the family on Friday nights. Between hectic schedules, medical problems, and a severe lack of energy, it doesn’t always happen, but when I can, it makes for a wonderful experience. Some dinners, I stick to traditional Jewish fare, other times I branch out. Tonight, I’m experimenting with a new recipe. I got a head start this morning and chopped the veggies.

Doesn’t it look colorful? It should make for a nice combination of carrots, celery, bok choy, peppers, sprouts, etc. Along with the veggies, I have some nice sirloin marinating in the fridge and will stir fry everything.

My plan is to drop off the boxes, stop by the post office, do some other random errands and then come home. Oh, and work in between and cook. Good thing I stopped my list at only 3 goals…

MazelTalk – A Jewish Discussion Forum

If you love Jewish discussions, check out MazelTalk, the first website dedicated solely to that topic. According to their site, “It’s a place for you to talk ‘Jewish’ with other Jewish people. Talk about the latest news affecting Jewish people, books related to Judaism, travel, food, humor and everything else.”

They don’t shy away from tough topics either—Israeli politics, abortion, Jonathan Pollard, and many others controversies are represented. Because the forum is open to all, expect to see a wide variety of opinions represented.

You do have to register to start talking, but it’s free and takes less than 5 minutes to complete.

How I Get Free Fruit Every Week

One of my favorite things to do is hunt for freebies. I shop the sales, use coupons, and increasingly, I’m also taking advantage of rebates. While many people skip coupons because the majority are for processed food, nobody should pass up fresh fruit and veggies!

Since I signed up with Checkout 51, I’ve been able to get free fruit every week. The “Pick Your Own” offer changes on Thursdays, but at least 5 produce items are always available that have a $0.25 rebate. That may not sound like much, but many items sold by the piece will qualify—bananas, citrus, kiwi, etc.

This week the options are limes, apples, onions, grapefruit, and avocados. Since a local produce store by me sells grapefruit 4 for $1.00, I was able to get one free.

In addition to the fruit freebies, Checkout 51 has rebates on many other items like cereal, crackers, dental hygiene, tea, razors, and a ton of Glade air care items.

Anyone who keeps kosher will be excited to know there are 4 separate rebates for Empire chicken, turkey, and deli meat. (We all know how hard it is to find kosher on a budget…)

Checkout 51 Offers

Most of us are already buying these items anyway, so it’s a great way to save a bit on the necessities.
