Super Savings Saturday – 6/6/2015

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This was a very busy week full of nothing but doctors and anxiety. On Monday, I went in for an ultrasound for one problem and then Thursday it was back to the eye doctor for yet another follow up. Sometimes I feel like I spend all of my time dealing with various health issues. Not fun! Getting to coupon, however, is!

I went to 4 stores and found lots of cheapies and freebies—nothing super exciting, but most of it was necessity.

Target:

2 packages of ground beef, on sale $3.50/Lb, with $1.00 mark down stickers. I also used 10% off Cartwheel. Total: $2.25 each!

There were a bunch of other Cartwheel deals I wanted, but everything was gone.

Shaws:

2 3-packs paper towels, on sale $2.00. I used 2 $0.75 Manufacturer’s coupons (doubled). Total: $0.50 each! (I love to stock up on paper products when they’re really cheap like this.)

8 cans Chicken of the Sea tuna, rain check price $0.79 each. Total: $6.32. (A good price for solid white albacore, but this brand isn’t that great compared to Bumble Bee.)

CVS:

2 Shout, rain check price $3.25 each. I used 2 $1.00 Manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $4.50, plus I got $3.00 in ECBs.

Propel water, on sale $1.25 with a $1.25 ECB. Total: Free!  (So few people wanted this, it didn’t even have a sale sign at the store. After drinking it, I can see why. The taste is terrible! Think water with baking soda mixed in.)

Rite Aid:

I’m finally getting the hang of Plenti points, so I stopped in for a good deal on toothpaste.

2 Crest Pro-Health, on sale $3.00. I used 2 $1.00 Manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $4.00. I used $4.00 in plenty points and received another $4.00!

How to Use 8 Dozen Eggs in a Day

a3

Sometimes it’s the unexpected deals that I enjoy the most, like this Egg-stra good find (sorry, I know that was beyond silly, but I had to.)

A local produce store was advertising peaches for $0.99/LB. Since I LOVE stone fruit, I stopped in, hoping for a bunch. They were completely cleaned out of the fruit, but I always do a quick run-through of any store I visit, looking for Manager’s Specials, Mark Downs, Unadvertised Sales, etc.

As I rounded the corner to the dairy section, a bright neon orange $0.25 sign caught my eye and I went to investigate. I could hardly believe it when I saw tons of free-range, organic, grain-fed eggs!

These retail for $3.99/dozen—or more!—so finding them for a quarter is unheard of. They all expire today, but that didn’t deter me. I scooped up 8 dozen for myself and left the remaining 5 in case anyone else wanted them.

After I got the eggs home, I carefully checked them over, making sure everything was intact and clean. Then, I started cooking.

I’ve heard that eggs can be frozen whole, out of the shell, but I’ve never tried that method (I’m not against it, I just wasn’t in the mood to experiment. It’s easier and quicker for me to stick with the tried-and-true). Here’s how I used up 8 dozen eggs in a day:

Boiled: I hard boiled 3 dozen. 1 dozen will be used plain for snacks and the other 2 dozen were made into egg salad.

Scrambled: The next 2 dozen were scrambled and made into breakfast burritos—all of which I froze for future meals/snacks. (I didn’t use a recipe, just scrambled eggs, diced onions/peppers, and cheddar cheese in flour tortilla.)

2 Pound Cakes: I have a delicious recipe that uses 6 eggs per cake! I made 2 and that finished off another dozen.

2 Bread Puddings: This was great because it used up some older, random apples, a handful of raisins and a dozen of the eggs.

If you’re counting, that brings us up to 7 dozen. After I finished cooking all of the above, I was exhausted and out of inspiration. Out of the blue, a neighbor called because she’d received my UPS package by mistake. When she kindly dropped it off, I offered her the last dozen and 1 of the cakes, which she was overjoyed to receive.

It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed it—for the most part. More than anything, I was proud of myself for being creative and getting such a good price.

Do you have any egg-heavy recipes to share? I’d love to try them!

The Summer Shop at Bonobos

This post contains affiliate links and I may be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

Have you checked out Bonobos’ Summer Shop yet? If not, you’re missing out. Their selection has everything you need for the warm weather.

Take their Summer Weight Polo. I’m sure you’d agree that polos are the quintessential summer shirt. They’re comfortable, reliable, and versatile. But they’re not always the lightest clothing item. And when the temperature starts to climb, they are often passed over for a lighter top. Bonobos’ Summer Weight Polos, on the other hand, solve that issue because they are made from cooler cotton pique, which makes them light as a feather.

Another fave from Bonobos’ Summer Shop is their Yarn Spun Printed Tees. Most guys have a few favorite tees that have been washed and worn so many times than they can honestly be called “vintage.” But man they are comfortable. Well, if you can believe it, Bonobos actually created a line of tees that are so comfortable that you’ll think you’ve had forever — it just won’t look like it. These tees are made with Peruvian tanquis cotton that Bonobos sourced specifically for their tees and tanks. They are perfect when worn on their own or when layered.

While we love our polos and tees, some summer days just call for a cool, comfortable tank. And Bonobos has a great selection and they are all made from that same, amazingly soft Peruvian tanquis cotton.

You can get any of these great shirts at Bonobos’ Summer Shop. Plus, you’ll get free shipping and free returns when you do!
