20/20 Vision Cosmetics Giveaway

a4a3

I’m excited to announce our latest giveaway, sponsored by 20/20 Vision Cosmetics!

20/20 Vision Cosmetics is a revolutionary product line geared to those of us who wear glasses. Anyone who has bad eyesight knows what a struggle it is to put on makeup without any correction. Because I’ve needed glasses for over 20 years, I deal with this on a daily basis, and it’s not fun! I first read about them in Women’s Day magazine and was really impressed with the concept they’ve created. Every product in their lines comes with a built-in magnifying mirror, allowing much better placement and ease of use!.

I was able to try out a bunch of their products for myself and I can assure you that the mirror really does work! Instead of squinting and guessing, I was able to see much better—not perfect mind you, but I have a very, very high index—and found it took less time to apply.

In addition to the awesome little mirrors, I found the line to have high quality cosmetics in great colors. Everything is FDA approved and hypoallergenic, and there are no bad smells or weird finishes. Truly just lovely!

Spaghetti Squash Makes a Super Side Dish

a3

Have you ever eaten spaghetti squash? If not, you definitely should try it! It’s a healthy, delicious, and low-carb side dish that will compliment a variety of meals.

For a long time, I resisted cooking squash because I was scared to cut it up (I don’t like fussing with hard shells and knives; you probably don’t either). I’d heard from a friend that squash can be roasted whole and after I tried that method once, I was hooked.

The cooking directions truly could not be simpler:

Start by placing a whole squash on a baking sheet. Roast at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. By that point, it’s much more pliable, and will easily open, allowing you to gently scrape out the seeds. Then flip the halves over, and return to the oven for an additional 45 minutes. That’s it!

After cooking, let the squash rest until cool enough to handle. With a fork, scrape out the cavity. The strands appear somewhat spaghetti like, but obviously taste nothing like pasta! Some people even claim this can be topped with tomato sauce and used as a replacement. Not true…

Spaghetti squash can be made into a sweet or savory side. For a savory version, try adding citrus juice, butter/margarine, and salt. If you want it sweet, add a little brown sugar.

I made this last with the salmon I found on sale, steamed broccoli, and baked potatoes. It was very well received!

Super Savings Saturday – 5/9/15

a3

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

It was a difficult week around here. Not feeling well at all, coupled with a lot of fighting/anger with Hungry Bear made for some difficult days. (My ongoing health problems make me testy and he’s unhappy at work, so we’re both crabby lately.) We don’t fight too often, but when we do, it’s always over something stupid and this time was no different. Afterwards, we both apologized and I received some gorgeous pink roses! I love any kind of flower.

As for deals, I found some goodies at Shaw’s and Target, plus I bought a few unremarkable staples at Market Basket. I didn’t find time or energy to check out the drug stores, but there was nothing special advertised, so it’s ok. Now that Rite Aid has switched over to Plenti rewards, I have to learn that system anyway, which will take some getting used to.

Shaw’s:

2 Wild Salmon, 3-day sale price $5.99/LB. Total: $19.47!  (Salmon is normally very expensive, so I was excited to find it at this price.)

2 Mission Soft Taco tortillas, on sale $2.50. I used 2 $0.55 Manufacturer’s coupons (doubled). Total: $1.40 each.

Everyday Essential cheese, regular price $2.50. Total: Free with purchase of 2 tortillas.

Everyday Essential fat free cream cheese, marked down to $1.00. (Total waste of money! The taste was so bad we actually tossed it out after 2 bites.)

Target:

2 Huggies natural baby wipes, 32-ct, regular price $1.47. I used 2 $0.50 Manufacturer’s coupons stacked with a $2.50/2 mobile coupon. Total: Free!  (The Huggies deal was featured on every coupon website and I was worried the shelf clearers would’ve beat me to it, but my store had tons in stock.)

4 Gold ‘N Plump chickens, regular price $5.79 with $3.00 mark down stickers. I also had 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons that I received for signing up for the e-club, thanks to a reader’s tip! Total: $2.29 each!

3 Market Pantry pasta sauces, on sale $1.00. I used a $1.00/3 mobile coupon. Total: $0.67 each!

I frozen one of the chickens and bulk cooked the other 3. That was turned into 2 huge casseroles of chicken ziti plus another dish of Mediterranean Roasted Veggies with some shredded chicken mixed in. I still have a small amount of meat left and will make chicken salad sandwiches tomorrow. It’s really amazing how many meals you can stretch a chicken into!
