Super Savings Saturday – 5/17

a1

It was another great week of savings! I got a ton of free toothpaste, free water, cheap eyeliner, and much more by shopping the deals and using coupons.

Rite Aid:  6 Colgate toothpastes, details here. Total: Free! (This is why I love to coupon. I buy ahead when I can pick up items for free and then I don’t have to pay retail. I won’t need toothpaste for the rest of the year now.)

Shaw’s:   Vidalia onions, on sale $0.69/LB. I bought 5.12 Lbs and used a $0.50 Manufacturer’s coupon (doubled). Total: $2.53!  (Rock-bottom price for sweet onions.)

2 rotisserie chickens, on sale for $5.00 each, plus a free bottle of Aquafina. Total: $10.00 for 2 chickens and 2 waters! (I love to buy these whenever they’re on sale, especially when it’s hot out and I don’t want to heat up my kitchen.)

Walgreens: 2 Revlon eyeliners, usually $9.49, now clearance for $4.79, plus a Buy One, Get One 50% off sale. I used 2 Manufacturer’s coupons and 2 $1.00 store coupons. Total: $1.18 for both! (These are double-sided so it’s like paying $0.29 each for 4 eyeliners.)

While I was at Walgreens, I made sure to say hello to all the cashiers. Because I’ve shopped there almost every week for years, I’ve gotten friendly with many, especially the ladies in cosmetics. The Burt’s Bees and Dove were free samples given to me when I bought the eyeliner. How nice is that?! I really appreciated it and loved the surprise. Being a nice couponer is rewarding in many ways!

Did you used any coupons this week?

Free Tire Rotation At Sears

a1

If you’re planning a trip this summer, use this Sears coupon for a FREE tire rotation! The coupon is valid until 5/31/14. I’ve done this deal twice in the past for my Pathfinder and never had to pay a dime.

My only complaint with Sears is the long wait time. Try not to go on the weekend if at all possible. I get extremely antsy at car repair places, so I just drop mine off and spend the time window shopping at the mall while trying to avoid inhaling these treats by the bucketful:

How To Save On Coach Purses

a1

If you’re anything like me, you love designer bags, but hate the cost! As an admitted Coach snob, I’m always looking for a good deal on my favorite brand. Coach purses are high-quality, look gorgeous, and last forever. A Coach bag in a department store can cost several hundred dollars and store coupons typically exclude the Coach brand entirely. If you want to buy Coach AND you want to use a coupon, try the Coach Factory store—either in person or online.

Coach Factory stores:

Coach Factory stores are located at outlet malls around the country. Use this link to find your closest one.

At the outlet, I have never paid more than $50 each. How is that possible? By waiting until they go on clearance and combining a coupon. At my local store, they hand out the coupons, or you can have your name added to their mailing list. There is no set schedule for the issue of Coach coupons. I find that they’re offered at least a few times a year. When the coupons are available, stock up! If you know you need one now and another later, buy them both. Remember: the goal is to never pay retail.

The Coach Factory store has a wide variety of bags, accessories, shoes, and luggage. I prefer small-sized bags, because I like to tuck them under my arm. If you prefer big bags, there will be plenty available.

By purchasing bags at their rock-bottom prices, I’m able to grow my collection affordably. Currently, I own five—plain black, black patent leather, black/white mix, and 2 prints. All of these bags coordinate with my color palette. Because I treat them gently, they last for many years. I keep all of my bags clean, dry, and stuffed with tissue paper when not in use.

The Ideal Wardrobe – Earrings

a1

Am I the only one that feels “undone” without earrings? I never leave home without them. They always make me feel polished, even in the most casual attire. I look for classics, made of quality metal. It’s better to have a single pair of real earrings than buckets of crap from Claire’s and Forever 21. Here are my must-have earrings:

a1

Gold Hoops: I wear these most often. They work with any color scheme, any season, day or night. Look for a pair that is small to medium sized with a twisted texture. The twists catch the light beautifully. Ross-Simons has good deals on gold. When I got my real estate license, I bought a pair to celebrate. They were $100 on sale and I enjoy them constantly!

a1

Pearl Studs: Pearls are a classic. They have a luminous quality that make the face literally sparkle. I prefer a small pair of white ones. When I was 17, I had my very first job ever at Macy’s. I bought a pair of pearls and they are still with me and going strong all these years later. I don’t recall how much I paid, but obviously I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

a1

Diamond studs: When you want to feel luxurious, this should be your choice. I love princess cut, no more than a carat, set in white gold or platinum. These will be an investment piece that can last a lifetime. I don’t like costume jewelry, but if you don’t mind, there are some great fakes on the market.

a1

Drop: drop or dangling earrings are awesome for a casual occasion or a night on the town. They look especially good when hair is worn down. Buy a pair in silver or gold, depending on your preference. Be careful to choose a pair that’s lightweight and don’t snag them on anything, lest they get ripped out!

Earrings to avoid:

Huge “doorknocker” hoops  (you’re not Salt or Pepa)

Lever backs  (very heavy on the lobe!)

Beads, feathers, animals, rhinestones  (look cheap)

Anything made with nickel  (can cause allergies)

Barbie, Trolls, Hello Kitty, etc  (If you’re over 10, don’t go there)

What kind of earrings do you prefer?
