Super Savings Saturday – 4/5

a1

Let’s call this the whole foods edition of Super Savings Saturday. I used very few coupons this week, but it wasn’t for lack of trying! CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens sent me home with a handful of rain checks. (It happens to every couponer, don’t get discouraged!) So, I focused on mostly grocery store deals.

Market Basket: 2 heads of Boston lettuce, on sale 2/$3.00. (Half-price at MB, but I’ve seen those go for $4.99 each at some stores.) Total: $3.00

Big bag of string beans, on sale for $0.99/Lb. Total: $1.19

Big bag of broccoli, on sale for $0.99/Lb. Total: $2.27

Shaw’s: I really cleaned up on markdowns. *Note for my New England readers: Try to shop early if possible. I grabbed up all these goodies at 8:00AM right after the meat manager brought out the stickers.

Whole chicken, originally $15.66, on sale for $8.66, with a $3.00 markdown. Total: $5.66 for an 8.75Lb bird.

2 Rib Eye steaks, originally $11.99/Lb. Each had a 3.00 markdown. Total: $4.91 and $5.63.

2 Skirt Steaks, originally $9.49/Lb. Each had a 3.00 markdown. Total: $5.16 and $4.40.

Free Bowling For Kids

kidsbowlfree_logo

As the summertime approaches, those of you with little ones will want to sign up at http://www.kidsbowlfree.com/. Once registered, kids qualify for 2 free games per day all summer long! There are centers all over the country that are participating, so there’s a good chance of finding one close by. *Special note for my Canadian readers: You can join in the fun, too!

Shoe rental will cost extra, so it won’t be an entirely free outing. Still a very good deal, particularly if you want to get out of the house and into an ice-cold environment on the cheap.

Tilapia Delight

a1

This recipe is so easy to make and so delicious to eat, I call it Tilapia Delight. The taste is exceptionally mild. Even so-called fish haters have been known to sample a bite.

Start by assembling the ingredients. I used some frozen Tilapia, minced garlic, lemon, and Smart Balance.

a2

Place the fish into a 9X13 Pyrex.

a3

At my house, I usually make 2 fish fillets per person, since fish isn’t super filling. Adjust accordingly, based on how many you’re serving.

a4

Grab a glass measuring cup. Put in 3 tsp. of Smart Balance, the juice of 2 lemons, and 1 tsp. of garlic. Microwave for a minute until it’s blended/melted. Pour the contents over the fish and top with breadcrumbs. If you have homemade, use those. If not, use Panko. It’s fine either way. Add some salt/pepper to taste, if inclined.

a5

Bake in a 400 degree oven for approximately 18 minutes. Spoon any accumulated pan juice on top.

a6

See how easy that was? Tilapia Delight pairs beautifully with asparagus, as featured. I also like it with string beans. For the starch, go with rice or mashed potatoes. If you’re being a very good girl, just veggies. (FYI: I ate the potatoes!)

Remember when I posted about the Free Biolage sample here https://thejewishlady.com/free-matrix-biolage-sample/?

The folks at http://moneysavingmom.com/ were nice enough to feature it http://moneysavingmom.com/2014/04/free-sample-biolage-matrix-shampoo-conditioner.html.

I really appreciated that since I’ve been a reader of that blog for many years. For those who don’t know, http://moneysavingmom.com/ is a personal finance blog that focuses on frugality. I’ve learned tons of good tips there and it’s definitely worth checking out.
