Roast Potatoes

While I love potatoes in most any form, I’m especially fond of having them oven-roasted.  Here is a Step-by-Step tutorial to help you make them at home. You will need whole potatoes,

onions,

chicken broth, garlic, salt/pepper, and oil.

seasoning

Assemble all of your ingredients. Wash, peel, and cube the potatoes, then fill a 9×13 Pyrex.

I used 7 medium-sized Russets.

Peel and dice two onions. I used yellow, any type is fine. Add to the potatoes, along with salt/pepper to taste, 1 cup chicken broth, 1 Tbs chopped garlic and 2 Tbs of oil (I used Veggie, Olive oil is equally good).  You may also use herbs—parsley, crushed rosemary, thyme. I didn’t today.

You should now have something that resembles this: potatoforover

Put it into a 400-degree oven. Check after 30 minutes and stir. Cook for an additional 45 minutes.  (Remember, all cooking times are approximate!) After 1 hour and 15 minutes of total cooking time, you will have something truly delicious!

As you can see, the finished product fills an entire dinner plate. For average-sized eaters, that will be at least 4 servings, provided you have a main course and other sides. Typically, I serve this with chicken or steak. It’s great for any meat meal or with fish. If you’re serving a dairy meal, simply omit the chicken broth and use water instead.

The Hair Products I Use

shampooconditioner

Yesterday, we discussed how to wash hair. Today, I’m going to discuss the hair products I use.

Shampoo: Currently, I’m using Tresemme Color Protection. It does a good job of cleaning without stripping. The scent is nice without being overwhelming.

Conditioner: Currently, I’m using John Frieda Full Body. I like this because it’s light enough not to weigh my hair down, but still keeps it moist.  (Yes, I do take my own advice and condition before I shampoo.)

On a daily basis, that’s it. Periodically, I’ll use mousse, hair masks, etc, but it’s not a regular thing. Because I am into Couponing, I have a huge stockpile of products to choose from. I switch shampoo and conditioners constantly. I find that the less I abuse my hair with product-overload, the better it looks and feels so a simple regimen is my choice.

What Shampoo and Conditioner do you use? Are you brand loyal or love to try new products? Inquiring minds want to know!

Winter In New England

We’re having a snowstorm today in New England, with up to 14 inches expected! Sounds like a good time to get cooking. Stay tuned while the Jewish Lady makes and shares her recipes for roasted potatoes and chicken.

How To Properly Wash Hair

a1

How to properly wash hair?! That may seem like an overly simplistic topic, but we all have to do it, and most of us do it wrong. Here are my tips for ultra-clean hair:

1.  Hair should be completely soaking wet, not just damp, before the shampoo is added. This is especially important for those with long hair who may skip this step impatiently. My hair is long, washing is boring—I get it. Still, it’s worth it.

2.  Use much less product—quarter-size at most. Also, make sure the shampoo is fully foamed in hand. Apply shampoo only to the roots, the rest is washed as it trickles down.

3.  Consider individual needs. Is your hair curly? Colored? Fine?  They make a product for that.

4.  If you do have fine/flat hair, apply conditioner before shampoo. Everyone else can condition after.

5.  Don’t repeat. One lather is plenty, unless hair is filthy.

6.  Rinse extremely well. A good rinse will take twice as long as shampooing.

When done properly, hair can easily go a day or two in between washings. I would never go more than two days in a row, unless I was coloring (more on how I color my hair in an upcoming post).

Do you agree with the above tips? Why or why not? Any additional advice appreciated!
