A Bikini Top is Not A Shirt

While waiting in a long line this morning at my local post office, I had the opportunity for extensive people watching. Only one person caught my eye and that was due to her questionable attire—a bikini top and a pair of Victoria’s Secret sweatpants.

She had to have been at least 40 and should’ve known better, yet there she was, hauling in boxes, bending/stretching, and basically revealing her entire cleavage to everyone in the building.

I understand that fashion sense can mean different things to different folks, but this was just downright lewd. Everyone talks about their need to be dressed comfortably and I get that. What I don’t understand is why your comfort should make others feel uncomfortable.

A short sleeve top made of 100% cotton is very lightweight, even on the hottest summer day. (FYI: It’s only 70 degrees here and not humid at all!) Wearing a bra under said cotton shirt isn’t exactly a burden either.

Ladies, we can be stylish and modest at the same time. We don’t have to bare every inch of skin to attract a man’s eye. Being and feeling beautiful is an integral part of womanhood; there is nothing wrong with that. What I don’t like is the emphasis on vulgarity. That’s not pretty, it’s trashy.

A bikini top, should someone choose to wear it, is appropriate for the beach only. (Personally, I like a one-piece better.) If you’re swimming, or lounging, or sunbathing, okay, but not in a store, or a restaurant, and definitely not a post office.

There is a time and a place for everything. Please save the bikini for the right moments.

International Abuse Scandal Plagues Australian Orthodox Community

A 10-year legal battle to extradite an accused child abuser from Israel back to Australia to face charges is making progress: Malka Leifer is finally in jail. The question is how long she will remain there…

The Orthodox mother of 8—who claims to be innocent—has used every legal trick in the book to avoid prosecution, asking for countless delays, faking mental illness, and exaggerating physical illnesses. These tactics have kept her walking the streets and possibly committing more crimes as the wheels of justice turn ever so slowly.

Her many victims, who are also her former students, say that she molested them repeatedly, using her position as Principal of an all-girls Jewish school as the “perfect cover.” The most outspoken victim, Dassi Erlich, has given extensive interviews, begging the public for help. Calling her campaign “Bring Back Leifer,” Dassi is understandably confused and angry that this case is still unresolved after a decade. High profile publicity in Australia and Israel have caused an outcry for justice that’s gone all the way up; the Prime Ministers of both countries have gotten personally involved.

As we’ve seen in other abuse cases, the victims have been smeared, lied about, and shamed. Dassi has taken the bulk of it, because she made the initial claim. Her courage to come forward allowed other ladies, including her own sisters, to admit it had also happened to them. (How unbearably heartbreaking is that?)

Anytime a community is isolated, abuse seems to flourish. In this case, it’s a Jewish group in Melbourne, Australia, but it could easily be the FLDS in Utah, or the Branch Davidians in Waco. Religious extremism, regardless of belief, seems to be plagued with abuse almost universally. Secular authorities and courts, left in the dark for far too long and afraid to infringe on individual rights, rarely intervene, and when they do, it’s extremely difficult to prove the charges.

There are many theories in the greater Jewish community about the Leifer case and why it’s been dragging on endlessly. The most startling to me is that a lot of people flat-out refuse to believe that a woman can be a sexual predator, especially a seemingly devout woman.

While it’s rare for a woman to be a molester, it does happen and victims need to be given the benefit of the doubt. Personally, I think it’s even worse than when a man does it, because the level of sociopathy is that much greater and they are even more dangerous to the public.

There is no legitimate reason not to extradite Mrs. Leifer back to Australia for trial. She isn’t crazy, she’s just wicked and if this ever goes to trial, the evidence will prove it.

Super Savings Saturday – 5/5/18

After a long hiatus, Super Savings Saturday is back!

A lot has been going on behind the scenes in the past few months. Because the backstory is rather long, I’m saving it for another post, but let’s just say, it led to total and complete burnout and seriously effected my blogging as well. I am now trying to overhaul my schedule and my priorities, since everything in my life has been totally out of balance. I’m not looking for miracles, but something had to give in a big, big way.

Anyway, on to the shopping. This week, I found a nice mix of freebies and cheapies. Even though it wasn’t a huge haul, I really enjoyed couponing again.

Rite Aid:

Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant toothpaste, sale price $4.00. I used a $4.00 store coupon from the flyer. Total: Free.

Vivarin, sale price $7.00. I used a $2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $5.00 plus $5.00 Plenti Points.

Contac Cold & Flu medicine, sale price $6.00. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $5.00 plus $6.00 Plenti Points.

I used $10.00 in Plenti Points, paying nothing out of pocket and earned $11.00, making it a moneymaker.

Target:

2 avocados, sale price $0.89. Total: $1.78 plus $1.78 rebate.

3 loaves of white bread, clearance price $0.49. Total: $1.47. (Not on the list, but too cheap to pass up.)

1 Loreal Color Riche Shine lipstick, clearance price $3.69. I used a $2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $1.69 plus a $2.00 rebate.

PetSmart:

This afternoon, we’re heading over for “Barkarita Fiesta” at our local store. According to their website, there will be free samples, coupons, and special snacks for the pups. Sounds like a fun time, for sure.

3 Sweet Chicken Recipes – Honey, Maple, & Orange

If you’re anything like me, a nice piece of chicken that’s covered in a slightly sweet sauce is a taste of heaven. (The keyword here is “slightly,” not super sugary.) I made each of the recipes featured with boneless, skinless breasts, because I had them on hand, but it’s equally good with bone-in. Dark meat can be used as well, provided the cooking time is adjusted.

All 3 versions are delicious ones that produce maximum flavor with little effort required:

Maple Chicken:

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 4 Tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 pieces boneless chicken

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Combine maple syrup, lemon juice and oil in a small pot. Place chicken in a 9X13 pan, and cover with maple glaze and salt/pepper. Bake 30 minutes or until done.

Honey Chicken:

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp. grainy mustard
  • 4 pieces boneless chicken
  • Salt and pepper

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix honey, oil and mustard together in a bowl. (If honey is hard, heat up slightly first.) Place chicken in a 9X13 pan, and cover with honey glaze and salt/pepper. Bake 30 minutes or until done.

Orange Chicken:

  • 1 can orange soda (fresh orange juice would also work)
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • four pieces boneless chicken
  • pepper
  • 1 clove crushed garlic

Combine all ingredients in a Ziploc and refrigerate overnight. The following day, heat oven to 400 degrees. Empty Ziploc into in a 9X13 pan. Bake 30 minutes or until done.

The orange was the kiddos favorite, while I like the first two more. Easy sides are string beans or asparagus along with a white or sweet potato—cook in the same oven on a different rack.
