Does Wearing a Long Skirt Make You Seem Religious?

If you wear a long skirt, will other people assume you’re religious? According to this article from The Forward, some may think so, judging by the title:
“When Secular Jewish Women Wear Long Skirts, Confusion Ensues.”

Frankly, I consider this to be a lot of hoopla about a non-existent problem. I know many ladies, from Ultra Orthodox to Atheist, that just enjoy wearing long skirts because they’re comfortable. (I’m one of them!)

Modest dress is practiced by every religion, but no one equates a long skirt, which can be purchased in any Walmart or Target in America, with a head scarf, or a prairie dress, or anything like that.

As for the “confusion” long skirts create—seriously, no one is confused, but whatever—does it really matter what a stranger assumes? Not one bit! Ladies shouldn’t be judged on their hemlines, period. Wear whatever you like best and let others do the same.

Summer Fashion Trends

Looking to update your summer wardrobe and have no idea where to start? Elle has a ton of articles about what’s trendy this season. Some of the ideas that I love are straw hats and bags, sundresses, and vintage inspired sunglasses.

Of course, not all trends are worth experiencing. Ones I’ll be skipping include red “Baywatch-style” swimsuits, braless tops, and jumpsuits. (Unflattering, tacky and inappropriate…)

LOLL Towel: A Wearable, Wonderful Option

With Summer quickly approaching, many of us are dreaming of long, lazy days spent at the beach or the pool. (The sun, the seashore…gosh, does it get any better?!) While I love to swim, I absolutely hate wearing a swimsuit. Even a “modest’ one-piece can be very revealing, not to mention unattractive and uncomfortable to wear. Plus, hanging out in a dripping wet suit when I get out of the water is not only yucky feeling, it’s also unhealthy.

A much better solution is a wearable towel. Similar to a poncho, the LOLL towel (aka Lots Of Love Lara, in honor of the Australian designer), is a loose-fitting, soft-feeling delight.

Made from 100% cotton, it zips up both sides, and also has a hood. The plastic zippers are guaranteed not to rust, even if they get wet. I tried it out on a recent vacation, with great results. Not only can it be used as an absorbent cloth, I like to use it as a cover-up. Much better than a tee and shorts, or a sarong, the LOLL is awesome. Instead of feeling self conscious, and worrying about my body being on display—and possibly sunburning, too!—I could lounge on a chair, reading a huge stack of magazines, without a care in the world.

LOLL towels come in a variety of colors and prints. My favorite is called Choppy Ocean, a blue and white combo of zigzag stripes. So cute!

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

I was compensated for this post. It contains affiliate links. I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking them.

What’s the best way to spoil Mom on her special day–flowers, chocolate, balloons? All of those make good gifts, but they’re gone in a flash. I’d rather give a keepsake that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Stella & Dot has created a Mother’s Day Gift Guide full of great options. One idea that I really love is engraving. Adding a name or initials to a piece of jewelry makes it so special.

Since I already have a lot of jewelry, I’m requesting a Multi-Strip Getaway Tote. Because I lug so much stuff around, I am always in need of another bag. This one is roomy and cute. Plus, it’s perfect for a day at the park, the pool, or the beach.

Many other accessories are available at Stella & Dot. With reasonable prices and excellent quality, their pieces should be on your gift list.
