My 2017 High Holiday Outfits

Selecting the right outfit for High Holidays is something most Jewish ladies agonize over, especially if your temple has a reputation for being a total fashion parade. Personally, I feel better about myself when I’m dressed up, and I definitely want to look as good as the other ladies, which does require some effort and careful planning.

In the past, I have spent hundreds of dollars on special occasion clothes. Inevitably, they would be worn once and then sit in the back of the closet forever. Not only was this expensive, it also made me feel guilty for being wasteful and extravagant. (Sure, I could wear something I already own, but that’s no fun.)

Last year, I experimented with clothing rentals, and it was a huge success. Now, I can get something new, wear it for a day, send it back, and do it all over again. Rent The Runway, my personal favorite, has so many dresses available, it’s actually hard to choose. If I had to sort through everything, it would be impossible, so I filter, starting with Daytime dresses and hem/sleeve length.

I decided on two dresses, one for Rosh Hashanah and one for Yom Kippur, since I normally only attend services those two days.

Rosh Hashanah: Valentina Tunic Dress by Tory Burch

Blue matte jersey, with long sleeves and a V-neckline. It has a full skirt, hidden side zipper and knee length hem. I really like that it’s fitted at the waist to create the ideal hourglass shape, but not super tight. Rental price is only $60 for a $350 dress!

For accessories, I will be using gray pumps and a gray and navy bag that’s already in my own collection.

Yom Kippur: Prairie Floral Dress by Cynthia Rowley

Black floral printed crepe, with long sleeves and a crew neckline. It has a fitted silhouette with a hidden back zipper. Fully lined with a hemline that hits right below the knee. This one is a nice, modest choice that still looks stylish due to the fun print and excellent shape. Rental price is $65 for a $388 dress!

Accessories will be gold/pearl dangly earrings, black pumps, and a black bag.

To avoid catastrophe, Rent the Runway provides the option to select a 2nd size dress for FREE! (How is awesome is that?) I do read the suggestions in the fit guide, but we all know nothing is guaranteed. Having a backup is so worth it.

And, if it’s your first order, you can receive 20% off with coupon code FIRST. Find your ideal style at Rent The Runway.

Fall Fashion Trends: Zodiac Style

What does fashion have to do with your Zodiac sign? According to Elle, it’s a new trend for fall.

For my sign (Sagittarius), they picked these items, based around a Menswear theme—Tibi Aldrich blazer, Sanctuary Bootcamp cargo pants, J.Crew sweater, and Malone Souliers ankle boots.

My verdict? 3 out of 5 stars. I love sweater and would definitely buy/wear it. The cargo pants are ok, but nothing spectacular. The jacket is horrible and the boots while cute are not practical for daily use.

I’d rather shop for classic, elegant pieces that look good and last for years, rather than pile on tons of trends. Even so, I look forward to Elle and Vogue’s September issues to gawk at all the wild stuff and (hopefully) find a few things that would work for my style.

50 Years of Fashions Fads

If you’re in need of a laugh, check out this list—complete with pics!—of the worst, weirdest, and wildest fashion fads of the last 50 years.

I wasn’t around for the 1970’s, but everything else I recognized and cringed over. Yes, I must admit that I did take part in many of these silly trends, particularly in the ’90’s when I was a teen. Seriously, who didn’t  experiment with scrunchies, jelly shoes, shoulder pads, frosted eye shadows, etc…

Other ones I recall and would’ve added to the list include dark lip liner with light lipstick, slip dresses, Ugg boots, acid wash jeans, baby backpacks, and giant hoop earrings.

Stella & Dot, known for their fashion-forward accessories, is branching out into clothing.

By adding clothes to their lineup, customers will now be able to easily coordinate a complete look with jewelry, handbags, sunglasses, scarves, and charms.

All of the tops in this collection are so pretty, with a wide range of styles that will appeal to many ages and body types (sizes 2-24). There are 10 different options including tunics, shoulder cut-outs, lace trim, solid colors, prints, short sleeve, sleeveless, long sleeve, regular tees, and dressier options—basically anything you could ever want!

Personally, I love anything that has a flowy fit, feminine feel, and V-neckline, so this Lola Tunic Top is perfect. White with navy trim, it has a side zipper and is fully lined, preventing the dreaded see-through look so many white tops suffer from.

Bold statements, pops of color, timeless essentials, and more styles you’ll love. Style in a Snap: Shop Stella & Dot’s entire look here!
