Super Savings Saturday – 3/4/17

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

What a wild week of weather we had here in New England. On Monday, I didn’t even need a coat; tonight, it’s only 9 degrees! How’s that for a huge swing? When it’s super cold, I don’t like to go out if it’s avoidable—good thing I shopped earlier.

Starbucks:

Even though I’m trying to stay away from sugary drinks, an exception had to be made for the new Iced Cinnamon Almond Milk Macchiato. I met a friend for an hour of socializing and BOGO coffee, just the two of us. Starbucks may not be the cheapest option, but I think it’s good to splurge occasionally.

Shaw’s:

I originally intended to pick up some free items with MyMixx (store) coupons. Although those were out of stock, it wasn’t a waste trip because I found a huge, unadvertised Manager’s Special on boneless chicken breast at $0.99/lb. Total: $22.38!

Because I’m short on freezer space, I decided to cut and cook it all up at once, then turned it into 2 chicken casseroles, a chicken salad, and a chicken soup. So nice to have everything prepared ahead of time.

Target:

5 Bush’s black beans, sale price $0.89. I used 5 $0.75 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.70 plus $3.75 Checkout 51 rebate!

3 Bush’s Hummus Made Easy, sale price $1.50. I used 3 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $1.50 plus $1.65 Checkout 51 rebate!

Anyone who claims coupons are only for junk food is truly mistaken. Not only were these items cheap, they were moneymakers! Eating healthy on a budget is possible, provided you’re shopping the sales and using coupons/rebates whenever possible.

CVS:

Reese’s candy bar, sale price $0.99. I used a $0.74 store coupon. Total: $0.25! (Since this is my man’s favorite candy, he was excited to receive this treat and stuffed both cups in his mouth at once like the food hog he is.)

Super Savings Saturday – 2/25/17

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

I skipped grocery shopping because I’m sampling some meals from Blue Apron (look for a product review in the near future). The only drugstore item I wanted, ThermaCare heat wraps at Rite Aid, were out of stock. So for the first time in a long time, I literally bought nothing all week!

Though I have no deals of my own to feature, fear not: my sister generously offered to share some goodies she found. Because we live in different areas of the country (I’m in New England; she’s in South Florida), and shop at different stores, I’m always curious to hear what she’s buying.

Aldi:

Unlike me, she is not into coupons and doesn’t shop multiple stores regularly. Everything purchased was a fruit or veggie (her household is vegan). I’ve heard many people rave about how wonderful Aldi is, and after seeing this receipt, I’d definitely agree. The organics, in particular, are a steal. If Aldi was in my area, and I only had the time/interest to make one stop, I’d do what she did.

Personally, I’d buy everything except the dates. We joke that she inherited her love of dates from our grandmother, who was famous for a date and nut bread recipe. (Oh, the memories of times we all cooked together. Many years ago, but I still recall it vividly.)

Super Savings Saturday – 2/18/17

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

Since we’ve had 3 snowstorms in one week, my main focus was on restocking the fridge and freezer. I went into Market Basket for meat, chicken, produce, and milk. Most everything I needed wasn’t on sale, there were no mark downs, and I didn’t use a single coupon. The store was completely mobbed and it was a miserable experience. Total: $72.81. This isn’t how I choose to shop regularly, but life happens, right?

After I brought the groceries home, I headed out again to search for clearance sales that I’d read about online.

Walgreens:

I didn’t want to buy too much, since it was only 50% off, but there were a few cheapies like these exchange cards for $1.49 that I couldn’t pass up. They’ll go straight into the stockpile for next year. The Ghirardelli chocolate boxes were marked $5.99, but rung up only $4.99 at checkout. A little pricey, yet worth it since the taste is divine.

Barnes & Noble:

Because I know how to buy books for less online, I rarely step inside an actual book store (we’re talking years). I will, however, make an exception for a red dot clearance sale that’s $2.00 per item. The selection was huge and I really enjoyed taking some time to browse at my leisure. I ended up buying 8 books, plus a latte in the coffee bar. Very relaxing way to spend 2 hours for less than $20.00.

Super Savings Saturday – 2/4/17

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

This week was all about health and beauty products with a few cheap home décor items tossed into the mix. I was hoping to find more items at the Target clearance event, but there is so little I need. (Maybe I’m too picky? Or just too cheap?)

Target:

2 Garnier Fructis conditioners, clearance price $1.48. I used 2 $2.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: Free! (The coupons beeped due to overage and had to be put in manually.)

2 Room Essentials curtains, clearance price $6.98. Total: $13.96! (Bought to replace some paper-thin, decade-old, raggedy curtains in the guest room. Much better now.)

CVS:

Colgate Total toothpaste, sale price $3.00. I stacked a $0.50 manufacturer’s coupon with a $2.50 store coupon. Total: Free!

Rite Aid:

2 packs of Daylogic razor cartridges, sale price $8.00. Total: $16.00 plus $16.00 Plenti Points!
