Super Savings Saturday – 12/10/16

cmv

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was a mixed bag. I totally struck out on a toy run, but had good luck elsewhere. Despite all of the endless ads, one-day sales, and holiday promotions, December isn’t really a bargain time to shop. Since I’m so well stocked, I can afford to be choosy. Still, I get so caught up in the frenzy of buy-buy-buy this time of year—hard to resist the temptation…

Kohl’s:

I read about some incredibly cheap toy deals on multiple deal blogs. I should’ve known better than to hit the mall during prime holiday shopping hours. I waited in traffic for 20 minutes, spent another 15 trying to find a parking space, had to shove through an enormous crowd inside the store and found nothing left on the shelf! Oh, there were plenty of items, but none of the super-cheap ones I wanted. I left empty-handed and very annoyed. Total waste of time/effort.

Super Savings Saturday – Black Friday Edition

thztcswroy

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

It was my biggest freebie event of the entire year, Black Friday, or I should say Black Thursday, since I did all of my shopping on the holiday. After scouring the ads and making extremely detailed lists, I was ready to jump into the Coupon Olympics.

By 6:00AM, I was up, tired but excited. I put on my most comfortable clothes and sneakers, stopped at Cumberland Farms for a free coffee, and headed to the drugstores.

In my area, CVS and Rite Aid are directly across the street from each other and open an hour apart. I went to CVS first and was the second customer inside. I picked up every item that was free after rebate, separated them into multiple transactions and rolled as I went. All told, everything on this list cost me $5.00 out of pocket and the $4.00 ECB I started with.

CVS:

1 Schick Xtreme 3 Razor, sale price $5.99. I used a 2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $3.99 plus $5.00 ECB!

2 7-Up sodas, sale price $1.00. I used a 1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $1.00 plus $2.00 ECB!

1 CVS panty liner,  sale price $0.99. Total: $0.99 plus $0.99 ECB!

2 Aquafina Sparkling Water, sale price $1.00. Total: $2.00 plus $2.00 ECB!

1 Trolli candy, sale price $2.00. Total: $2.00 plus $2.00 ECB!

1 Starburst, sale price $1.00. Total: $1.00 plus $1.00 ECB!

2 M&M’s, sale price $0.77. I used a BOGO coupon. Total: $0.77 plus $0.77 ECB!

1 Stylessentials Leggings, sale price $5.00. Total: $5.00 plus $5.00 ECB!

1 Physicians Formula Organic Wear mascara, sale price $9.00. Total: $9.00 plus $9.00 ECB!

2 Torq3 razor, sale price $5.00. Total: $10.00 plus $10.00 ECB!

1 CVS AA batteries, sale price $4.39. Total: $4.39 plus $4.39 ECB!

1 CVS Nicotine Gum, sale price $4.99. Total: $4.99 plus $4.99 ECB!

1 CVS Pain Relief Gel caps, sale price $3.99. Total: $3.99 plus $3.99 ECB!

1 CVS Cleansing Cloths, sale price $0.99. Total: $0.99 plus $0.99 ECB!

1 Glade air freshener, sale price $0.99. Total: $0.99 plus $0.99 ECB!

1 GUM toothbrush, sale price $2.00, Total: $2.00 plus $2.00 ECB!

2 Green Giant veggies, sale price $0.99. Total: $1.98 plus $2.00 ECB!

2 Ocean Spray PACT drinks, sale price $1.50. Total: $3.00 plus $3.00 ECB!

Rite Aid:

Compared to CVS, it was small potatoes. After Walgreens acquired them, the deals really started to diminish and the 2016 ad was nothing like 2015! Even so, there were a few goodies totally free after rebate.

2 Colgate toothbrushes, sale price $4.00. I used 2 $0.50 manufacturer’s coupons stacked with 2 $2.50 in-ad coupons. Total: $2.00 plus $8.00 Plenti Points!

2 GE light bulbs, sale price $4.00. I used 2 $2.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $4.00 plus $8.00 Plenti Points!

2 Crest mouthwashes, sale price $5.00. I used 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $8.00 plus $8.00 Plenti Points!

2 Conair hair brushes, sale price $3.00. Total: $6.00 plus $6.00 Plenti Points!

2 Rite Aid gift tapes, sale price $2.00/2. Total: $4.00 plus $4.00 Plenti Points!

3 Kleenex, sale price $1.00. I used a $0.75/3 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $2.25 plus $2.00 Plenti Points.

2 Phillips earbuds, sale price $6.00. Total: $12.00 plus $12.00 Plenti Points.

Unlike CVS, you can’t roll transactions the same day. My total out of pocket would’ve been high except I had a $25.00 gift card that I’d been saving. Had I been spending strictly cash, I would’ve bought less.

I finished by 10:30, went home and watched the parade as I cooked. We enjoyed a wonderful feast! In the evening, I had planned to do some mall shopping but I was so tired and it was lightly snowing, so I skipped it. All in all, it was hectic but fun and definitely worth the effort.

Did you participate in Black Friday? Why or why not?

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was all about Rite Aid. I didn’t buy too much, just a few random items, because I am waiting for the annual Black Friday shopping spree. I loved finding cheap snacks and makeup. The deodorant went into a donation box since there’s over a dozen presently in the stockpile.

I was hoping to pick up groceries early for Thanksgiving but I didn’t do it. The goal is to shop this morning to avoid the insane mid-week crowds. Last year, I waited until Wednesday night and it was a disaster.

Rite Aid:

Nutella, sale price $2.99. I used a $2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.99!

2 Planters peanuts, sale price $1.50. I stacked a $1.00/2 manufacturer’s coupon with 2 $0.50 peelie coupons. Total: $0.50 each!

Brut deodorant, sale price $1.75. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.75 plus $1.00 Plenti Points!

Degree deodorant, clearance price $1.44. I used a $1.50 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: Free!

Sure deodorant, sale price $1.75. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.75 plus $1.00 Plenti Points!

Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, sale price $1.97. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.97!

Maybelline Brow & Eye pencil, sale price $2.15. I  used a $2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.15!

How many coupons did you use?

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was rather slow. The drugstores had nothing remarkable and I skipped them completely. Target had some good things and I hit the jackpot on cheap veggies.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I’m on the lookout for sales on holiday-related products. The turkey deals are in full swing. In my area, the deals range from $0.68/LB to $0.47/LB frozen and the fresh are running double that price. I haven’t bought any—yet—but I do plan to stock up for the freezer.

Target:

I wanted to take advantage of a Dove body wash promo and another on Nature Made gummy vitamins. My store was cleared out of both, but I did find other stuff.

4 Canine Carry Outs dog treats, regular price $3.99. I used a $1.00/4 manufacturer’s coupon stacked with a 40% off Cartwheel offer. Total: $2.12 each!

2 Reynolds oven bags, regular price $2.47. I used 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons stacked with a 30% off Cartwheel offer. Total: $0.73 each! (Absolutely worth the added step/expense if you want a moist bird.)

4 Knorr rice packs, regular price $0.99. I used 2 BOGO coupons. Total: $0.50 each! (I’m not crazy about these, but they’ll make a fine food pantry donation.)

Local produce store:

10-LB bag of red potatoes, clearance price $1.00! (Since the price was so low, I took a chance. About 3/4 of the bag was useable. All in all, worth it.)

4-pack of rainbow peppers, clearance price $0.79!
