Super Savings Saturday – 5/16/15

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

This week was full of many freebies and deals, both from shopping my regular route plus a few new stores I’d never been to before. (Visiting somewhere new always gives me the needed motivation and energy to continue couponing, which can honestly be a chore at times.)

My favorite deals were free laundry detergent, free soap, and $0.88 chicken.

Walmart:

Purex detergent, regular price $3.99 with a $3.99 Try me Free rebate. Total: Free!

CeraVe face soap, regular price $4.97. I used a $6.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: Free!

Hidden Valley Ranch dip, details here. Total: Free after rebate!

Shaws:

2 Marzetti salad dressings, on sale $2.50. I used 2 $0.75 manufacturer’s coupons (doubled). Total: $1.00 each!

1 package chicken legs and 1 package chicken thighs, BOGO plus $3.00 mark down coupons on each. Total: $0.88!   (What an incredible find! I didn’t know if both deals would go thru but it worked perfectly. I’m not crazy about dark meat, but I was super excited to score 4lbs of meat for less than $1.00!)

Children’s Orchard:

This is an upscale resale store for children and babies where you can buy and sell any items that are in good condition. Not only does it have clothes, there were also plenty of toys, furniture, and other kid-friendly items available. By joining the M.O.M.S Club, I received a $5.00 cache card, good on anything in the store.

I bought a 3-piece Carter’s infant set. Since it was only $4.99, I paid nothing!

BJ’s Wholesale Club:

After receiving a free 60-day membership offer in the mail, I was willing to give the wholesale club another chance. It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve set foot one of these and it was better than I remembered with much more variety. I walked the entire store to get a good lay of the land and compare prices. I liked the food/drinks and some of the clothes and books. I’m not, however, crazy about the cost. Because I shop deals and loss leaders, none of the food was cheaper than what I currently have access to, and there’s a $40 membership charge added on before anything is purchased. After running the numbers, I don’t think it’s worth it for me, but I did have fun shopping.

I purchased a beautiful scarf that was half price, $5.99, and I’ve already worn it twice this week.

Super Savings Saturday – 5/9/15

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

It was a difficult week around here. Not feeling well at all, coupled with a lot of fighting/anger with Hungry Bear made for some difficult days. (My ongoing health problems make me testy and he’s unhappy at work, so we’re both crabby lately.) We don’t fight too often, but when we do, it’s always over something stupid and this time was no different. Afterwards, we both apologized and I received some gorgeous pink roses! I love any kind of flower.

As for deals, I found some goodies at Shaw’s and Target, plus I bought a few unremarkable staples at Market Basket. I didn’t find time or energy to check out the drug stores, but there was nothing special advertised, so it’s ok. Now that Rite Aid has switched over to Plenti rewards, I have to learn that system anyway, which will take some getting used to.

Shaw’s:

2 Wild Salmon, 3-day sale price $5.99/LB. Total: $19.47!  (Salmon is normally very expensive, so I was excited to find it at this price.)

2 Mission Soft Taco tortillas, on sale $2.50. I used 2 $0.55 Manufacturer’s coupons (doubled). Total: $1.40 each.

Everyday Essential cheese, regular price $2.50. Total: Free with purchase of 2 tortillas.

Everyday Essential fat free cream cheese, marked down to $1.00. (Total waste of money! The taste was so bad we actually tossed it out after 2 bites.)

Target:

2 Huggies natural baby wipes, 32-ct, regular price $1.47. I used 2 $0.50 Manufacturer’s coupons stacked with a $2.50/2 mobile coupon. Total: Free!  (The Huggies deal was featured on every coupon website and I was worried the shelf clearers would’ve beat me to it, but my store had tons in stock.)

4 Gold ‘N Plump chickens, regular price $5.79 with $3.00 mark down stickers. I also had 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons that I received for signing up for the e-club, thanks to a reader’s tip! Total: $2.29 each!

3 Market Pantry pasta sauces, on sale $1.00. I used a $1.00/3 mobile coupon. Total: $0.67 each!

I frozen one of the chickens and bulk cooked the other 3. That was turned into 2 huge casseroles of chicken ziti plus another dish of Mediterranean Roasted Veggies with some shredded chicken mixed in. I still have a small amount of meat left and will make chicken salad sandwiches tomorrow. It’s really amazing how many meals you can stretch a chicken into!

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

I found many good deals and freebies this week on food, drinks, and a cheap hair cut. Rite Aid has discontinued their UP Reward program and Video Values coupons which is so disappointing! I’ve used those successfully for years and it’s going to be hard to make the change. Personally, I doubt it will last. A lot of couponers are flooding them with complaints already. I have many stores to shop at locally, so it doesn’t effect me terribly, but not fun for anyone.

Walmart:

3 Rotisserie chickens, marked down to $3.24 each. Total: $9.72!  (Regular price is $4.95 each.)

French bread, marked down to $0.39!  (Regular price is $0.99 each.)

In the evening, Walmart marks down many baked goods and prepared meats. I’ve found 9:00 pm is a great time to shop if you’re looking for deals. Everything I bought was less than a day old and tasted fine.

Market Basket:

4 Poland Spring waters, rain check price $0.99 each. I used 2 $0.75/2 Manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.63 each!  (I like to keep bottled water in the car. This saves me from having to buy overpriced drinks on the go.)

a3

CVS:

I went to CVS looking for the free Meta Bar and a 30% off bag sale. The bag was in stock, but the bars were all gone. Luckily, my store was nice enough to substitute another bar.

Orange reusable bag & 30% off CVS brand items, free with in-store coupon.

Trash bags, regular price $8.79. I used the 30% off coupon. Total: $6.15!  (Not the best price ever, but we really needed trash bags, so I bought them anyway.)

Zone peanut butter bar, regular price $1.87. The store adjusted it to $1.49 and let me use the $1.49 Meta Bar coupon. Total: Free!

Great Clips:

After CVS, I stopped by Shaw’s. The deals I wanted were out and I left with a rain check. Next door, there’s a Great Clips salon that was advertising hair cuts for only $5.99. Since I really needed one, I decided to try it. I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially for such a low price, but I’m happy to report it was fine. Anyone who likes a simple one-length cut or very minimal layering should be happy. (Don’t expect miracles, however.) The lady who cut my hair was super nice and I was done in only 15 minutes—love that!

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was full of many good deals and freebies, especially on high priced items like underwear and baking sheets. I don’t usually shop at the mall, but when I find coupons, it’s definitely worth it. The trick is to get in and out quickly, or I’m sidetracked by tons of other junk that I “need” to buy like a $6,000 fridge. (No, I didn’t buy it, but the salesman I talked to made me want one so badly!)

Sears:

Kenmore heavy duty baking sheet, sale price $10.99. I used a $10.00 Shop Your Way Rewards code, and used free in-store pick up. Total: $0.99!  (I order many things online, but this was my first time ordering online and picking up in person. While the price was awesome, I must say it was an annoying experience and took much longer than expected!)

Victoria’s Secret:

Pink panties, regular price $10.50. I used a Secret Rewards coupon given to me for a prior purchase. My coupon was worth $10.00, so I only paid $0.50!

Shaws:

4 P3 Protein packs, on sale $1.00 each. I used 2 $1.00/2 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.50 each!  (I find these come in very handy for snacks and lunchboxes.)

2 Marcal toilet papers, on sale $2.99. I used 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $2.99 each!  (Not the softest product on the market, but it’s not bad for the price.)

1-lb package of carrots, marked down to $0.37!   (A single carrot had a spot and everything else was perfect.)

a3

Target:

2 Seventh Generation dish soaps, details here. Total: $0.69 each!

2 Horizon cheese & crackers, regular price $3.49. I used a BOGO coupon stacked with 2 $1.00 Target coupons. Total: $0.75 each!  (A very hungry bear inhaled them both in the car before we even left the parking lot…)

I was planning to shop the drugstores as well, but then it was Friday before I knew it, and I ran out of time. (Ok, I could’ve stayed out later, but I raced home to watch the Bruce Jenner interview. All I can say about that is “WOW!” I may not understand what he’s going through, but I have so much compassion for his struggle.)
