Super Savings Saturday – 6/2/18

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

This week revolved around preparing to move—cleaning, sorting, donations, meeting with 3 realtors, landscaping, and a bunch more! (Gosh, I’m tired just writing that out. It’s a never-ending process lately.) The idea is to have our place on the market within 2 weeks. While it’s listed, we also have to scout for a new home and then coordinate a sale and a purchase. Not an easy task for sure, but it needs to be done.

On the shopping front, I’m not stocking up too much for obvious reasons. I did find a few deals that were too good to pass up and had one epic fail at a consignment shop.

Shaw’s:

2 Shady Brook Farms ground turkey, sale price $2.49. I used 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $2.98! (Made into decent-tasting burgers. I prefer beef, though.)

Signature Farms chicken thighs, clearance price $0.39/lb. I used a $1.25 MyMixx digital coupon. Total: $0.81. (I have never, ever bought a family pack of meat this cheaply. Looking for Manager’s Specials, BOGO deals, and markdowns are the best ways to save.)

Rite Aid:

2 Men’s Daylogic razors, sale price $5.00. Total: $10.00 plus $10.00 Plenti Points. (Because I rolled points, it cost nothing out of pocket.)

Children’s Orchard:

I’ve had good luck buying a few things here in the past. Selling, however, was a nightmare. I filled my Pathfinder to the brim with toys, baby equipment, clothes, shoes, and books. After hauling everything inside, I was told they were short staffed and it would take 2 hours for an evaluation.

Because they’re across the street from the mall, I said okay and walked around aimlessly, waiting. Upon returning, they offered me less than $30.00 for everything—not even $1.00 per item. I have no problem with a slight markup, but that’s just ridiculous gouging. Needless to say, I sold nothing, had to bring all that junk back home and now will look into a yard sale. Ugh…

Fuego Box:

On the same day I scored at Shaw’s with the meat deals, a huge box of condiments was delivered for me to review. (Even though I’ve been blogging for many years, I still get excited by every single package.) Talk about a nice assortment of hot sauce, sandwich spread, spicy honey, and a dry rub! The Jalapeno & Garlic is extra awesome. I would definitely recommend these products if you enjoy spicy foods. Plus, for each Chili Cause Crate sold, a donation is made to Prostate Cancer research.

Super Savings Saturday – 5/5/18

After a long hiatus, Super Savings Saturday is back!

A lot has been going on behind the scenes in the past few months. Because the backstory is rather long, I’m saving it for another post, but let’s just say, it led to total and complete burnout and seriously effected my blogging as well. I am now trying to overhaul my schedule and my priorities, since everything in my life has been totally out of balance. I’m not looking for miracles, but something had to give in a big, big way.

Anyway, on to the shopping. This week, I found a nice mix of freebies and cheapies. Even though it wasn’t a huge haul, I really enjoyed couponing again.

Rite Aid:

Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant toothpaste, sale price $4.00. I used a $4.00 store coupon from the flyer. Total: Free.

Vivarin, sale price $7.00. I used a $2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $5.00 plus $5.00 Plenti Points.

Contac Cold & Flu medicine, sale price $6.00. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $5.00 plus $6.00 Plenti Points.

I used $10.00 in Plenti Points, paying nothing out of pocket and earned $11.00, making it a moneymaker.

Target:

2 avocados, sale price $0.89. Total: $1.78 plus $1.78 rebate.

3 loaves of white bread, clearance price $0.49. Total: $1.47. (Not on the list, but too cheap to pass up.)

1 Loreal Color Riche Shine lipstick, clearance price $3.69. I used a $2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $1.69 plus a $2.00 rebate.

PetSmart:

This afternoon, we’re heading over for “Barkarita Fiesta” at our local store. According to their website, there will be free samples, coupons, and special snacks for the pups. Sounds like a fun time, for sure.

Super Savings Saturday – 1/27/18

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

I’m making a major effort to sort through the house, top to bottom, and purge stuff we don’t need. Since we’d like to move in the near future, this project is very high on my list, but so overwhelming. 1-2 hour chunks of time is about all I can stand, but even short bursts have been very constructive.

Used Book Store:

I brought in 6 bags of books. This store is pretty picky and only wanted a fraction. I received $39.49 and donated the rest to the library. While this isn’t a savings for me, it will be for the next buyer and it’s good to pass on the savings when we can.

Walgreens:

2 White Cloud toilet papers, sale price $3.99. I used 2 $3.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $1.98!

Walmart:

4 Rimmel eye shadows, details here. Total: Free!

4 oranges, regular price $0.50 each! Total: $2.00 plus a $2.00 Coupons.com rebate!

1 dozen brown eggs, regular price $1.89. Total: $1.89 plus a $1.89 Coupons.com rebate!

Local Produce Store:

4 pineapples, sale price $0.99. Total: $3.96! (Two are gone; the other two waiting.)

4 limes, sale price $0.25 each. Total: $1.00!

Honeydew melon, sale price $1.49.

Clearance pack of random veggies – 1 green pepper, 1 red onion, 2 zucchini. Total: $0.89! (Other than one rotten spot on the pepper, it was all edible.)

A random pineapple tip from Pinterest: Instead of cutting into chunks, try making circular slices. I’m planning to make a fruit platter for Tu B’Shevat and the pineapple will be a great addition. I find so many pretty pictures/inspiration/recipes from Pinterest!

What have you done lately to save money?

Free Rimmel Eye Makeup

Score free and clearance Rimmel eye makeup at various stores with a new $3.00 coupon and get glamorous without spending a fortune.

Walmart:

Rimmel single eye shadows are regularly $2.97. My store carries 8 different shades.

Target:

I found Scandal Eyes liner on clearance for only $2.78 (free after coupon) and Volume Mascara for $3.98 ($0.98 after coupon). The liquid liner is $2.49 with coupon—not the best deal, but if you need it now, that’s decent.

CVS:

Some other couponers have posted on various sites that they found $2.99 clearance mascara. My local store does not have any, but worth a look if you like shopping there.

Two prints of the coupon are allowed per device so if you have a laptop and a smartphone, that’s 4 free shadows or liners!
