Super Savings Saturday – 9/19/15

0915151446b

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was all about the eggs. Ever since the shortage happened and egg prices have doubled—and tripled in some cases!—I have been able to find them reduced for quick sale because they “expired” the next day (eggs are good much longer than that date, so don’t be afraid to stock up).

Because bread was also on sale, we ended up having egg salad sandwiches for lunch 3 days in a row. I had to readjust the menu plan, but it’s worth it when good deals pop up unexpectedly.

Shaws:

4 dozen cage free organic eggs, reduced price $0.99. Total: $3.96! (Since one dozen is normally $3.99, I was really excited to buy 4 for less than that. Taste/texture wise, these eggs were excellent.)

2 Arnold Oatnut breads, BOGO price $4.49. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $1.75 each!

Broccoli, on sale $0.99/lb. Total: $1.93.

Everyday Essential old fashioned oats, clearance price $1.50. (It’s hard to tell from the picture, but this was discounted because the canister is crushed. Nothing wrong with the contents and it doesn’t expire until 2017.)

Hannaford:

2 Lindsey Natural olives, regular price $4.19. I used 2 free product coupons. Total: Free!  (I’m the only one that will eat Kalamata olives around here, so I’m planning on making a lot of yummy Greek salads.

Rite Aid:

GE light bulb twin pack, on sale $7.99. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon and 699 Plenti Points. Total: Free, plus 799 Plenti Points. (I love getting moneymakers on necessary household items that I’d have to buy anyway.)

Target:

I intended to buy kids clothes and shoes, using a 30% cartwheel offer. After spending 40 minutes browsing, I just couldn’t find anything worth buying since it excluded clearance. While I HATE leaving a store empty-handed, it’s much more important to only make sound purchases and not waste money.

Super Savings Saturday – 9/12/15

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was full of many freebies and cheapies. I shopped at 4 stores and actually left each one of them with a purchase instead of a rain check, which is a nice change of pace.

Target:

I’d heard lots of summers clothes were on clearance, and while that was true, I didn’t find anything in my size that I wanted. Kind of a bummer, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

2 twin packs of Maybelline mascara, clearance price $2.98. I used 2 $2.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.98 each!

2 Starbucks iced coffees, regular price $1.99. I used 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons and a 40% off Cartwheel offer. Total: $0.19 each!  (No pic of these because I was so tired/thirsty, I drank both in the car before I got home. Yes, it was one of those days…)

CVS:

Hershey bar, on sale $0.99. I used a $0.75 CVS coupon from the in-store machine. Total: $0.25!

Rite Aid:

Tropical Hot Tamale, regular price $1.59. I used a free product coupon, printed from Rite Aid’s website. Total: Free!  (Such a weird flavor. I don’t like spicy, cinnamon candy, so that’s probably why.)

Shaws:

I always love to check the reduced rack here for unexpected bargains. Finding cheap pasta was awesome.

2 boxes Barilla Rigatoni, clearance price $0.50. Total: $1.00. (That’s 2 boxes for less than the regular price of one, all because the boxes are crushed.)

2 Kraft BBQ sauces, on sale $1.66. I used 2 $0.50 manufacturer’s coupons (doubled). Total: $0.66 each!

Super Savings Saturday – 8/29/15

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was full of cheapies and freebies. The highlights were $1.00 razors (an item that’s normally so overpriced), clearance makeup, and a pair of snazzy sandals.

In between shopping trips, I spent tons of time watching 10th anniversary coverage of Hurricane Katrina. Even though a decade has passed, my heart breaks for these victims! I feel so blessed to have a home, food, and a full stockpile in case a disaster strikes. Those folks had nothing—no water, no diapers, no insulin for diabetics. It never should’ve happened and I pray it never will repeat. Emergencies do happen, so we should all make an effort to prepare, however we’re able.

Rite Aid:

4 Jergens Natural Glow lotions, regular price $2.69. I used 4 $2.00 store coupons. Total: $2.76, plus $4.00 Plenti Points! (I love making a profit on a sale.)

2 Schick Quatro razors, on sale $7.00. I stacked a $3.00 manufacturer’s coupon with a $3.00 store coupon. Total: $1.00 each! (That’s an amazing price because the normal retail is $10.49.)

Target:

2 Maybelline Great Lash Mascaras, details here. Total: Free!

I also wanted to check the clearance shoes, to take advantage of a Cartwheel 25% offer. I ended up with something cute and comfy! I’m calling these my “Clara” sandals, in honor of my late grandmother. That dear lady never met a metallic shoe she didn’t love and I will think of her every single time I wear them.

Merona sandals, clearance price $8.97, plus Cartwheel offer. Total: $6.28!

CVS:

I had $2.00 ECB waiting for me, which was a nice surprise.

Scotch packing tape, rain check price, $1.99. I used my $2.00 ECB and received a $1.00 ECB.

2 Maybelline foundations, regular price $7.99. I used a $3.00/15.00 CVS coupon stacked with 2 $2.00 manufacturer’s coupons and the $1.00 ECB. Total: $7.98, plus $5.00 ECB.

Super Savings Saturday – 8/22/15

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was all about breakfast food—cereal and cereal bars. I don’t like either, but the rest of the family does. By combining coupons, rebates, and sales, I was able to stock up for very little.

Otherwise it’s a s-l-o-w time for deals. Rite Aid & Walgreens weren’t interesting and I struck out at CVS. But that was nothing compared to a hellish trip to Walmart!

Shaws:

I finally downloaded the MyMixx app from Shaws, which features digital coupons and a weekly freebie (the Fiber One cookies).

3 Kellogg’s Nutri Grain, on sale Buy 2 Get 1 free. I used 2 $0.75 manufacturer’s coupons, stacked with a $1.00 Checkout 51 rebate. Total: $0.79 each!

2 Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch, on sale $2.00 each. I used 2 $0.50 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $1.00 each!

2 Star Wars cereal, on sale $2.00 each. I used 2 $0.75 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.50 each!

CVS:

My goal was to find the free after ECB Propel water. I left with only a rain check.

Target:

I made a super quick trip to pick up two prescriptions and some cheap paper towels.

4 Bounty Basic Paper Towels, $0.97. I used a $0.50 manufacturer’s coupon, stacked with a 10% off Cartwheel offer. Total: $0.38 each!

The medicine, if anyone is curious, was $10.00 each. I try to always buy generic if possible because name brand prescriptions are ridiculously expensive!

Walmart:

As usual, shopping at Walmart is a nightmare. I wanted to price match some dry goods from a few different stores, thinking I’d save time/money with one quick stop. (Ok, stop laughing!) After waiting in line for 15 minutes, I then had to deal with a very inexperienced cashier that couldn’t work the register. Another 5 minutes waiting for a manager. Then another 5. At that point I was so tired and frustrated—it was 10:00 pm—I left everything there and went home!

Imagine: it takes less time to shop at 3 grocery stores than it does at Walmart!
