Super Savings Saturday – 7/18/15

IMG_20150716_144319

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was pretty slow. Although I saw plenty of “Christmas in July” sale signs, the deals didn’t seem to correspond. (Why does Christmas come twice a year anyway? I don’t get it…maybe because I don’t celebrate it?)

I ended up skipping the drugstores completely (the only thing I wanted was free Hershey bars at Walgreens, but I’m craving sweets so strongly, I skipped it for fear I’d eat every one in a single sitting).

Even with the slim pickings, I still found great deals on meat, produce, and toys.

Target:

This trip was a repeat to fix the one that got messed up. I’m happy to report that I remembered my cartwheel coupon, found many great toys at a clearance price, and managed to hide them in the garage before anyone could see. I didn’t get a pic, but my haul included Hello Kitty, 2 board games, 1 puzzle, and a Ninja Turtle mask. Total was $28.02!

I also found some clearance items for me—$1.99 flip flops and $7.49 yoga pants. I wasn’t sure if I was cool enough to try navy camo, but it’s been ok so far and the pants are super soft & comfy.

Shaw’s:

Split chicken breast was on sale for $0.99/lb. I wanted to stock up on huge amounts, but the store was very depleted. I left with 2 family packs and a rain check. My total was $13.78.

Local Produce Store:

Since this store is on the same street as Shaw’s, it’s convenient to swing by afterwards. I almost always find some marked down treasure and this week was no exception. There huge packs of cheap produce.

2 Tomatoes, $0.99/pack.

Bag of mixed potatoes (Yukon gold, red, russet), $0.89/pack.

Vidalia onions, $0.79/lb.

2 Nectarines, $0.89/pack.  (2 random peaches & 3 plums were mixed in.)

Apples (Pink Lady & Red Delicious0, $0.99/6-pack.

Aside from a few spots, all of the produce was perfect. I made the tomatoes into pasta sauce, chopped and roasted the onions, the potatoes were turned into a salad, the apples were eaten fresh and the nectarines were sliced/frozen for smoothies. I love deals like this because I get so much more for the money and provided I do something with it quickly, none is wasted.

Super Savings Saturday – 7/11/15

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week I did all of my shopping during one long day rather than breaking it into shorter trips. I’m trying to find what’s easier because just getting out the house when you have chronic pain and insomnia can be a huge struggle. (Sometimes it seems like the only time I get outside is for doctor’s appointments and couponing, uh!)

Anyway, I found cheap drinks, chicken, veggies, and hit the first week of Back to School sales. The only low point was a bad trip to Target. I was super excited to shop the toy clearance and pick up some other Cartwheel deals. Imagine my frustration when I discovered I’d forgotten my phone and didn’t have the required e-coupons—after shopping for 40 minutes! Needless to say, I will be going back and trying that again.

CVS:

2 Lipton iced teas, on sale 2/$2.00, plus $2.00 ECB.

Propel water, on sale $1.25 with $1.25 ECB.

Popcorn, regular price $1.00. I used a $1.00 coupon. Total: Free!

Shaw’s:

2 packages of split breast chicken, BOGO plus $2.00 mark down stickers on each pack. Total: $7.07!

Pack of reduced zucchini, on sale $0.99!

Staples:

8 spiral note books, on sale $0.25. I bought 8 and the total was $2.00. I had a $2.00 Staple Ink Reward, so it cost me nothing! Because I shopped late in the week, I wasn’t sure how much stock would be left. There were plenty and I grabbed all the pinks and purples.

Local Produce Store:

I love this store because they have excellent mark downs, provided I time it properly (early in the morning or right before closing). They had much more than usual and I grabbed 3 huge packs of mixed stone fruit. It was mostly peaches with a few plums and nectarines tossed in. I cut it up and froze for smoothies. Interestingly enough, only a single piece of fruit was rotten. It makes me so sad how much edible food is thrown away in this country! I forgot to snap a pic, but it filled 2 gallon size Ziplocs.

Super Savings Saturday – 6/27/15

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was full of many good deals and freebies, including real food. (I regularly buy food, but only feature my best deals, so it doesn’t always get included in SSS.) My favorite deals were a $0.44 steak and $0.49 nail polish!

Local produce store:

Fresh Georgia peaches were only $0.99/lb. I took home approximately 3 lbs, ate a bunch fresh and froze extra for smoothies. Total: $3.18!

Bunch of asparagus, $0.99/lb. Total: $1.98! (It’s hard to find this priced so low. We love fresh veggies around here, and it was enjoyed by all.)

BJ’s Wholesale Club:

I made one last trip before my trial membership runs out and to use a high value coupon. I would’ve also bought a rotisserie chicken, but it was too early in the morning.

2 cases Goya black beans, regular price $3.99. Total: $7.98! (Cheaper than the grocery store and will last a long time.)

Chuck steak, $5.44. I used a $5.00 coupon. Total: $0.44! (Talk about an amazing price! This isn’t the best meat ever, but the price sure was right. I cut it up for stew and popped it into the freezer.)

IMG_20150622_150559

CVS:

2 Ziploc freezer bags, on sale $2.75. I used a $1.00/2 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $4.50, plus $3.00 ECBs. (These seem to be used constantly around here, so I was glad to stock up.)

Meta Health Bar, on sale $1.49. I used the $1.49 in-store coupon. Total: Free!

Rite Aid:

There’s a Rite Aid by the wholesale club I rarely frequent, but I stopped in hoping they’d have more of the free glosstini. None of those were left, but I did find Covergirl Outlast polish marked down to $1.49. After using a $1.00 coupon, it was mine for 2 quarters.

Here’s what it looks like on. I’m not sure how I feel about sparkly purple polish long-term, but novelty can be fun.

Super Savings Saturday – 6/20

IMG_20150618_110439

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday! (The observant will notice this is actually Sunday. I couldn’t get my internet to work yesterday, so this is going up late. Sigh…)

This week was filled with many goodies. I really enjoyed getting a free smoothie and a free Chill Zone on Friday and then hitting the drugstores and the mall for some bargain shopping.

CVS:

I was looking to score some free Meta bars, but my store was totally cleaned out. The manager was nice enough to substitute.

Adkins chocolate chip bars, 5 ct, price adjusted to $8.49. I used the $8.49 Meta bar store coupon. Total: Free!

Rite Aid:

There was none of the free Crest mouthwash I hoped to find, but lots of free nail polish.

4 Cover Girl Glosstini polish, clearance price $0.94. I used 4 $1.00 Manufacturer’s coupons. Total: Free!

IMG_20150618_154102

Shaw’s:

4 packages turkey bacon, on sale $1.69. I used 4 $0.75 manufacturer’s coupons (doubled). Total: $0.19 each!

10 Ken’s dressing, on sale $0.88. I used 5 $1.00/2 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.38 each!

What an amazing price on the dressing. I was so excited to stock up on a bunch at this price, thanks to my sister sending me extra coupons.

Sears:

I received surprise points from Shop Your Way for $15.00. I used them for Rachael Ray cookware, which was on sale for $15.86. Out of pocket, my cost was only $0.86!

To be honest, I don’t really like this item at all. It was described as an oval skillet which I thought would be a pan, but it’s more of a sauce pot. For less than a dollar, it’s not a big deal, but buying online can sometimes be a let down.
