Super Savings Saturday – 10/13/18

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

It was a week of extremes—temperature, that is. From a record setting high of 85 degrees early, to a bone-chilling 41 degrees today, it’s been pretty weird.

On the shopping front, I found lots of good deals on food. There wasn’t a single item that I needed or wanted at the drugstores, so I skipped them altogether.

Shaws:

Green grapes, sale price $0.99/lb. Total: $5.81.

Eggplant, sale price $0.99/lb. Total: $4.93.

8 Signature Kitchen frozen veggies, sale price $0.69. Total: $5.52. (There was a strict limit of 8, or I would’ve bought much more.)

Market Basket:

4 Excedrin, sale price $1.99. I used 4 $2.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: Free.

3 Avocadoes, sale price $0.99. I used a $0.75/3 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $2.22.

Bananas,  sale price $0.39/lb. Total: $9.74. (Some for eating, some for freezing, some for baking.)

3 Skippy peanut butter, sale price $2.00. I used 3 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $3.00. (I prefer Jif, but this is okay.)

Cains mayonnaise, sale price $2.50. I used a $2.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.50.  (Also not my preferred brand—Hellman’s is the best—but a good price.)

Turkey breast, $0.99/lb. Total: $8.03. (I roasted the whole thing and turned it into one dinner, two lunches, and chili.)

Local Orchard:

We wanted to go apple picking. Intense rain changed our minds. Instead of picking our own, we bought a bushel that had a mix—Cortland, McIntosh, Macoun, Crispin, Gala, and Jonagold. The price was $50.00, for about 42 lbs. That is slightly higher than a grocery store’s cheapest apple, but we enjoy supporting local farms.

Super Savings Saturday – 10/6/18

After last week’s craziness, it’s been nice to experience a slower pace. In addition to regular grocery shopping at Market Basket, I found a few good deals at the drugstores and tried shopping at a new store for the first time.

It’s always nice to find cheap paper products and free cosmetics!

Walgreens:

3 Nice storage ziplocs, sale price $0.99. Total: $2.97.

3 Smile paper plates, sale price $0.99. Total: $2.97.

Sparkle paper towels, sale price $5.99. I used a $1.25 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $4.74.

Burlington:

Details on this one can be found here

CVS:

Poparazzi nail polish, regular price $2.99. I used a $2.99 store coupon. Total: Free.

4 Rimmel Eye Shadow Sticks, sale price $2.99. I used 4 $3.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: Free.

Super Savings Saturday – 9/8/18

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

What a week it’s been. Due to a broken water main in town, we had one day with no water at all and a second day with just a trickle. Mind you, these were my designated days for holiday baking, so that definitely won’t get done now. (Yes, I’m buying a lot of prepared food for Rosh Hashanah this year and that’s ok. It’s called real life and it doesn’t work perfectly!)

I’m so thankful to have water again and it gives me a deeper level of compassion for people that don’t have access to clean water regularly. We take it for granted, but it’s truly a blessing to turn on a tap, on demand, with no effort.

Since I was trying to stay out of the house anyway, I had plenty of opportunities to shop.

Shaws:

Refresh bottled water, 24-pack, sale price $0.99 with digital coupon.

Shady Brook Farm turkey breast, sale price $0.99/Lb. Total: $5.86.

Sweet potatoes, sale price $0.79/lb. Total: $4.19.

Round plain and raisin challah, $4.99 each. Total: $9.98.

Gala apples, $0.88/lb. Total: $6.03.

There was a free digital coupon for a small bottle of coconut water, but my store didn’t have any in stock.

Rite Aid:

2 Russell Stover Halloween chocolates, sale price $0.50. Total: $1.00 plus $1.00 Bonus Cash. (The marshmallow are so good, but Halloween already is just ridiculous.)

1 Oral B toothbrush, sale price $4.00. I used a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $3.00 plus $3.00 Bonus Cash.

2 Suave Kids shampoos, sale price 3.00. I stacked 2 $1.00 manufacturer’s coupons with a $2.00/2 store coupon. Total: $2.00 plus $2.00 Bonus Cash.

CVS:

Tide Simply Pods, sale price $2.94. I used a $2.00 store coupon. Total: $0.94. (This was a tiny 13-count pack, but so cheap, I won’t complain. Regular price is $6.99!)
