Donate Leftover Flowers to the Needy

Ever wondered what to do with leftover flowers bought for a big event? I sure have when I witnessed hundreds of gorgeous roses being tossed into the trash after an elaborate wedding! (Guests were allowed to take them home, but most declined. Such a waste, huh?)

The Full Bloom is a non-profit organization that accepts floral donations for the needy. They recut, repurpose, and recycle gently used flowers into bedside bouquets for patients in hospitals, hospice care, and nursing homes.

This idea is so ingenious, I’m surprised no one has tried it before. I’ve had multiple relatives that required long-term care and it gets so lonely and depressing for the patients. Many folks get no cards, no visitors, nothing. Imagine the joy that a surprise bouquet could bring to someone lying alone and sad all day in a hospital bed! And since the flowers are already paid for, there’s no additional cost for the giver. Win-win for all.

Do they donate to the VA? You will never see more miserable lonely patients than at the VA hospital. My father died at the one in NJ and it was completely substandard care for the men. He wasn’t there long, but some of them just languished for YEARS! Nobody cares about the Vets.

The VA is a complete disgrace, especially the one in Phoenix. I can’t imagine how anyone could mistreat these American heroes and let them die needlessly. So very wrong and it’s all about money, too.

Our local funeral home does this with all of their leftover arrangements. They have been doing it for years. I thought it was a great idea when I first heard about it.

I’ve heard of individuals or businesses that do it on a local level, but this is the first nationwide network (to my knowledge). Very thoughtful and kind way to spread the love.

I have never heard of flowers being donated in this way, but I think it’s wonderful that they can get more than one use!
