One of the strangest things to emerge from this study was the huge number of respondents who said they are Jewish, but have no religion.
If someone is Jewish, and Judaism is a religion, how is it possible to be “Jewish, No Religion?” Quite simply, it isn’t. One can be Jewish and not religious, or Jewish and not currently practicing, but you can’t be Jewish and have no religion.
I don’t claim to be particularly observant. I do have faith and I try to lead a moral life. While I respect all of the Laws, most are impossible to follow. I think everyone is entitled to interpret Judaism and follow it in their own way. Nobody should be disconnected from the Jewish Community simply because they’re not observant.
Do you think “Jewish, No Religion” is a fallacy?
