It’s Jewish American Heritage Month

May is Jewish American Heritage Month! (Pretty cool, huh?)

JAHM was started in 2006. The entire month is devoted to recognizing prominent individuals, reflecting on the Holocaust and honoring Jewish contributions to all parts of society, including literature, music, cinema and the arts.

The 2019 theme is American Jewish illustrators, who have created beloved children’s books, iconic graphic novels, superheroes, syndicated comics and cartoons.

Some folks on the list are world-famous like Stan Lee and Maurice Sendak. Lesser known—but definitely talented—artists like Maira Kalman and Jack Kirby are also getting some well-deserved attention.

Where The Wild Things Are is one of my favorite books! It belongs in every child’s library.

I feel very lucky that the Jewish community can be celebrated by the whole country. In the same regard, I am happy to acknowledge other communities during their heritage months. We are all Americans and we need to honor each other.

JHAM has more info on their website, including a list of events, activities/resources and a free toolkit that can be downloaded.

Super Savings Saturday – 4/27/19

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday.

Because of Passover, I missed out on some food deals and clearance candy leftover from Easter. Finding lots of free beauty and hygiene products, however, more than made up for it.

Rite Aid:

2 Japonesque emery boards, sale price $1.49. Total: $2.98 plus $3.00 Bonus Cash.

6 Elf makeup brushes, regular price $1.00. Total: $6.00 plus $6.00 Bonus Cash.

I had $10.00 in Bonus Cash, so it cost me nothing out of pocket.

Walgreens:

2 Oral-B toothbrushes, sale price $2.99. Total: $5.98. I used a $6.00/2 digital coupon. (I wasn’t sure if it would work since digital coupons can be touchy. I’m happy to report there was no issue.)

Biotrue eye drops, sale price $12.99. I combined a $3.00 store coupon with a $3.00 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $6.99. (Great deal for the single vial variety, which tends to be wildly overpriced.)

Did you use any coupons this week?

National Pretzel Day Freebies on 4/26

National Pretzel Day is this Friday, 4/26. Celebrate by picking up a FREE pretzel at any of these restaurants:

Ben’s Soft Pretzels

Wetzel’s Pretzels

Philly Pretzel Factory

Pretzelmaker

Also, keep an eye out for local deals. Smaller places may not advertise them, but that doesn’t mean they’re not available. My favorite coffee shop gave away mini chocolate covered pretzels in 2018 with any order—no matter how small.
