Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

After my Black Friday marathon spree, this week was much lighter. I barely shopped at all, truth be told. Even with limited ambition, I found many freebies and cheapies. My favorite deals were fresh, whole turkeys for $0.29/LB, free fruit, and free holiday cards.

Walmart:

3 Chicken of the Sea flavored salmon pouches, regular price $1.18. I used 3 free product coupons, good up to $1.15. Total: $0.03 each!

1 banana, details here. Total: Free!

Hannaford:

1 lemon, on sale $0.50. Total: $0.25, after $0.25 rebate is deducted!

2 turkeys, on sale $0.29/Lb. Total: $4.15 and $3.91!  (This is the cheapest price for fresh turkey I’ve ever seen. I cut both birds into pieces, and now we’ll have lots of meat. So far, I’ve cooked two breasts and it was very tasty. Nature’s Place is the Hannaford house brand, which seems to be high quality.)

My Experience With Warby Parker’s Home Try-On Program

What used to cost me $400.00, had to be custom-fitted, and often looked unattractive? Eyeglasses! While I love to shop in general, selecting glasses is a nightmare I’ve been dealing with for over 20 years. (Since I’m severely nearsighted, skipping correction isn’t an option. I prefer contacts, but dry-eye syndrome limits wear time.)

When I first started buying glasses, they were only available from an optician. The internet revolutionized the process and being able to buy glasses online is a HUGE savings! The only downside is picking out an unknown frame, crossing your fingers, and praying it works ok.

Some of the frames I liked, others were hideous. Because I was most concerned with cost, I was willing to make the sacrifice. Then I heard about Warby Parker’s Home Try-On program. Since I’m in need of new frames, I eagerly signed up and selected five options from the Winter 2014 Collection:

As you can see from the pictures, my favorites were the Verne Beach Glass (gray in color) and the Whiskey Sugar Maple (dark brown in color.) Both were cute, but don’t follow my lead and wear two at once. (Why am I so silly…)

Warby Parker is known for retro-style frames, which isn’t what I’m accustomed to wearing. (My current pair is a semi-rimless medium oval frame, made by Kenneth Cole.) I don’t think any of these styles are really “Me,” but I loved the quick and easy process. Best of all, it was free (there is no charge to use this service, provided you follow instructions and mail them back with the prepaid shipping).
