Get Your Pet: The Easiest Way to Adopt or Rehome

According to the ASPCA, approximately 1.5 million shelter pets are euthanized annually. Many of the 670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats have no health problems and could be saved if they only had a home to live in and a family to love them.

It truly breaks my heart to think of these needless deaths. Instead of shopping for your “perfect pet” why not consider adoption and save a fur baby in need?

The time and money required for a traditional adoption can be off putting. Luckily, there’s a new and better way, an online adoption community where people who want to adopt a pet can connect with those who need to rehome a dog or cat.

Creating an account is free—for both Owners and Seekers. Search by pet type, gender, location, traits, etc. When you find someone who catches your eye, simply message the owner and go from there.

My sister desperately wanted to find a German Shepherd, but was hesitant because she has little kids. (Her youngest is scared of some big dogs). Get Your Pet allows the whole family to meet with a prospective pet in person, with no commitment required. They were able to see him at the dog park, pet him, feed treats, play with toys, and judge if it would be a good fit all-around.

His owner was super friendly, answering questions about the dog’s likes and dislikes and went over his background in detail. Because Miami has had an increase in anti-Semitic attacks, getting a guard dog is a wise idea. German Shepherds are a popular choice for home protection and tend to be very loyal. I adore little dogs, but they don’t offer the same level of protection that a big boy does!

After the meeting, the next step is a vet exam, which is available for no extra charge. (If you’ve ever been told that a fur baby was healthy and found out a week later that he needed a $5,000 surgery, you will understand how priceless this service can be).

Finish up by signing the adoption certificate electronically and paying the fee. The cost is $99 for a dog and $49 for a cat—less than half of what a shelter or rescue typically charges.

Get Your Pet is a wonderful way to expand your fur family and reduce shelter deaths, illness, and occupancy—something we can all agree on.

Mama of 7 here. Don’t listen to anyone about the “bad” breeds. We have always had German Shepherds and Rottweilers. Nobody has ever been bit or injured. They are wonderful family dogs and fiercely protect my kids.

I love German Shepherds! My favorite dog in the world. We had one but now we rent and of course we can’t have pets. I so miss her and hope that someday to have another. That one in the picture is so handsome!

Get your Pet sounds like a wonderful service, I work with feral cats and socializing them and finding them homes is so rewarding.

I’m not sure if they do feral relocation, but if not, maybe they could start. I know placing ferals can be very challenging. They are wonderful animals and I really admire anyone who cares for them.

Another crazy et lady chiming in- it all come down to how an animal is socialized. Shepherds are fantastic dogs as are chows and any other. They do have to be raised around or ne socialized around kids- same as other animals.
I have never heard of this service nor read about it, but it sounds very good. Many dogs are overlooked (and cats) when they need rehoming leaving previous owners with few choices, There are great animals out there and no need to buy from a breeder.
Like Holly up there I work with feral colonies, I will often get a litter to socialize while Momma get spayed and socialized or released.

I have a huge problem with breeders, especially the puppy mills. Some are good, yes, but most are just in it for the money and they abuse the animals. I’d much rather see an adoption for a needy pet than spend $5,000 on a trendy breed that fits in a teacup.

We had a German Shepherd when I was a child and he was lovely. My best dog ever was a Pit Bull mix who got along perfectly with my toddler niece and grade school age nephew and was absolutely delightful to everyone… unless you tried to break into our house. He scared off some burglars one night and I was so grateful! I agree wth everyone who says that there are no bad breeds, just bad breeders and bad owners.

We are considering adopting another pet. My husband wants a dog and we are debating somewhat about the breed to choose. I prefer shepherds; protection is important to me. He travels so much and I prefer a loyal companion.

I only adopt animals when I get one. There’s so many furbabies without homes. This sounds like such a awesome service. We need more services like this. I wish everyone looking to get an animal would adopt because these poor animals need homes. There’s just too many who need love to have so many puppy mills, etc.

I am looking to adopt another furbaby to replace the one I lost, I need a small dog for companionship as I am not able to get out much, they are so expensive and I just can’t afford the price breeders are charging, adoption is a much better choice and cheeper

German Shepards are such amazing dogs. People need to realize that there are many dogs that need to be adopted or rescued! I agree to adopt, not shop!

My sister and I are looking to adopt a dog when we move in together, however, my niece is only a year old. I had no idea Get Your Pet allowed you to meet the dog before you adopt!! I’ll definitely look into it.

I agree that a bigger dog makes me feel safe! The pet adoption service seems awesome and I love how you can interact with the animal before you make such a big decision!

This pet adoption service seems to be the most helpful one I’ve ever heard about. It’s always nice to make sure that the dog likes you before making it apart of the family.
