How To Properly Wash Hair

a1

How to properly wash hair?! That may seem like an overly simplistic topic, but we all have to do it, and most of us do it wrong. Here are my tips for ultra-clean hair:

1.  Hair should be completely soaking wet, not just damp, before the shampoo is added. This is especially important for those with long hair who may skip this step impatiently. My hair is long, washing is boring—I get it. Still, it’s worth it.

2.  Use much less product—quarter-size at most. Also, make sure the shampoo is fully foamed in hand. Apply shampoo only to the roots, the rest is washed as it trickles down.

3.  Consider individual needs. Is your hair curly? Colored? Fine?  They make a product for that.

4.  If you do have fine/flat hair, apply conditioner before shampoo. Everyone else can condition after.

5.  Don’t repeat. One lather is plenty, unless hair is filthy.

6.  Rinse extremely well. A good rinse will take twice as long as shampooing.

When done properly, hair can easily go a day or two in between washings. I would never go more than two days in a row, unless I was coloring (more on how I color my hair in an upcoming post).

Do you agree with the above tips? Why or why not? Any additional advice appreciated!

I have rather long hair myself and have gone through the best ways to wash over and over. This post sounds great….I really need to cut this second shampoo nonsense. Thanks for the tip!
