Pumpkin Spice Lattes have returned! (Does that mean it’s officially fall?) It’s a week earlier than usual and Starbucks is making us work for the privilege. Sign up to receive a PSL Fan Pass, then show the mobile pass to a barista and get your drink on.

Do Reverse Hair Washes Actually Work?

trr

Shampoo first, then condition—that’s the order we’ve all been taught to wash our hair. Guess what, it may not be best, particularly for fine or flat hair! Tresemme’s newest collection, Beauty-Full volume, is a reverse wash system. By conditioning first, hair will still be soft but not weighed down.

Long before there was an “official” product line, I was doing this (by “long before” I’m talking over a decade!). Washing in reverse keeps my long, stick-straight hair looking/feeling better than a traditional wash. Thanks to a BOGO coupon, I was able to try Tresemme’s version. Did I like it? Yes. Do I think it’s mandatory? No!

Over the years, I’ve done my own reverse wash with dozens of different products. Provided you’re using ones made specifically for volume, most any shampoo or conditioner will do.

For ladies with curly hair and/or dry hair, a traditional wash may work better for you. Finding the right hair care is an experiment, after all. But if you’re like me and don’t have any natural volume, the reverse wash can’t be beat.

Have you tried a reverse wash? If so, did you like it?

Bachelorette Gift Box Review & Giveaway

Selecting the right gift for a bachelorette can be tricky…especially if she’s getting married for the third time! While I doubt I’d be brave enough to try again after two divorces, my cousin is, and I want to share in her excitement. (A lot of folks are being very negative. That’s understandable, but I don’t judge!) Since I offered to plan the party, it was up to me to create something special, something different than she had done before.

When I asked for her input, her requests included bride-to-be gear, a night out, and champagne (sounds pretty reasonable, right?). I started by visiting a local party store, thinking it would be easy to pick everything up there. Not so! A lot of the bridal stuff looked cheap and junky, but the prices were outrageous. What I needed was a kit that had everything included.

While the store didn’t offer such a thing, I was pretty sure I could find one online. The Something Blue box from Novel Erotics was exactly what I had in mind.

The kit is packed into a hollow book. It features a one page story and these awesome party favors:

  • Pink bridal sash
  • Tiara
  • Veil
  • “Dare to do It” activity cards
  • Collar/bowtie/cuffs set for the groom-to-be

bachelorette

The plot of Something Blue features a group of friends who go to see a male dancer show. While the story is a bit racy, it’s by no means filthy and anyone who likes the Chippendales wouldn’t be offended. Obviously, it’s just for grown ups, though.

Knowing my cousin so well, I wasn’t worried about her reaction. As expected, she loved it! I told her to wear a plain black dress and the accessories from the box matched perfectly. She wore her hair down with the veil/tiara pinned securely on top. (Like any tiara, it was a bit heavy, especially as the hours wore on, but not unbearable.)

Because I am a firm believer in responsible drinking, we had a designated driver. My wonderful hubby waited for us as we went to dinner and then to a wine bar. He sat in the car throughout, playing video games on his phone, and never complained. Such a sweetheart!

As we enjoyed a few drinks, we took turns reading from the “dare” cards. Between the bride-to-be accessories and our hysterical laughter, lots of attention was directed our way. I’ll admit we did get a bit goofy, but nobody was sloppy or dangerous, and it was all in good fun!

Something Blue is definitely the perfect gift for the bride-to-be that’s adventurous. If you’re getting married soon—or know someone who is—you’ll want to enter this giveaway. It could be yours for free!

Super Savings Saturday – 8/27/16

al

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

Can you believe that August—and summer—is nearly over? Gosh, it seems like yesterday was Memorial Day and now it’s almost Labor Day! While I have enjoyed fun times of swimming, gardening, beach play, and wearing white jeans for months on end, there is one thing I’m glad to see go: the terrible heat and humidity! Here in New England, we had 19 days of 90 degrees which is unheard of. I’m really looking forward to fall’s cooler temps.

As for sale shopping, this week might’ve set a record…for least number of stores and things purchased! I went only to Walgreens. (That’s twice in two weeks. Maybe it’s no longer my worst store?)

Walgreens:

4 Almay eye makeup remover pads, sale price $5.79 plus 50% off. I used 2 $5.00/2 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $7.38 plus $6.00 Reward points. (So excited to snag these. Now I’m stocked up for at least 6 months!)

Other items on my list were $0.89 paper plates, $1.49 peanut butter, $4.50 Scott toilet paper, and clearance glue sticks. NONE of them were in stock. I did get rain checks, but it’s still frustrating. After 8 years of couponing, I’ve learned to not worry about it. Deals are hit or miss, but another one can pop up immediately.
