Super Savings Saturday – 7/2/16

rv

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

This week was all about nails—both polish and remover—and drinks. I had success at 2 drug stores and a hellish trip at Walgreens. Every time I consider giving Walgreens another try, I’m reminded why I quit them a while ago. I hope the merger with Rite Aid won’t ruin that, too.

CVS:

2 Revlon nail polishes, sale price $3.99. I used 2 $3.00 manufacturer’s coupons. Total: $0.99 each! (Isn’t the Pink Glaze color so pretty? It’s on my toes now and I love it.)

Just The Basics bottled water, sale price $2.22. (Only a dime per bottle is a great price for water. I try to always have drinks in the car in case I get thirsty while out.)

Rite Aid:

6 Rite Aid nail polish remover pads, $0.49 plus Buy one, Get one 50% off. Total: $2.19 plus $4.00 Plenti Points! (Notice the upside down sign. Funny, huh? I prefer non acetone products, but I bought these anyway since it was a moneymaker.)

3 Wyler’s drink mixes, regular price $1.00. I used a $1.00/3 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $2.00 plus $2.00 Plenti Points.

Schick razors were included on my list, but the store was totally out of stock. I have lots of razors in my stock pile, so it’s not a big loss.

Walgreens:

As usual, shopping at Walgreens is a huge hassle and total waste of time. I saw a great deal about Gillette Venus products mentioned on numerous blogs. I wrote down the instructions step-by-step and followed them exactly, but it didn’t work. The paper coupons beeped; the digital coupons never came off. The cashier was nice but totally overwhelmed. She told me I could talk to the manager after he returned from lunch. Not worth it! I left empty handed.

Make Going Back to Campus Easy with At Home Store

At Home Logo

This is a sponsored post on behalf of At Home and MomSelect. All opinions are my own.

Back to Campus—those three words conjure up a world of possibility…and a ton of expenses! Tuition, books, moving boxes, travel ticket, etc. After all the necessities are accounted for, trying to buy extra goodies can be tough. Take decorating the dorm room. Some may consider this a luxury, but any college student will say it’s a necessity to create a “home away from home.”

My beloved nephew is getting ready to attend school in Florida and he is extremely particular about his personal space. He feels its a reflection of his unique style and needs to be surrounded by things that make him feel comfortable. (Because he struggles with anxiety and depression, I concur.)

While his style might be at odds with mine, I do like to indulge him when it’s affordable. We love to look at discount stores together. One of our newest favorites is At Home. Known as the home décor superstore, they have a wonderful selection for Back to Campus, complete with an awesome checklist that eliminates the guesswork. Printing out the checklist and being able to cross items off as we shopped was so nice and saved a ton of time!

The main things we focused on were bedding, storage baskets, and a desk lamp. Of course, a few knickknacks made their way into the cart as well. He was drawn to the Poptastic collection which features bold, eye catching designs, including his favorite color (yellow).

Every item purchased can be enjoyed by him for years to come, without going into debt to buy it. At Home provide endless possibilities at an unbeatable value. Whether your tastes tend to be quirky (him) or classic (me), they have décor that will offer something for everyone.

Triple Sesame String Beans

st1

Of all the wonderful veggies in this world, I think string beans might be my favorite. They are so good prepared simply with a little butter and a squeeze of lemon (how I cook them most often), but to take string beans to the next level, try making them Asian-style with sesame.

These are called Triple Sesame String Beans because sesame oil and two kinds of seeds are used. The look of white and black seeds combined is gorgeous. If you have trouble finding both, a single color can be used, but it won’t be as pretty.

To make Triple Sesame String Beans, you will need:

  • 4-5 cups of fresh string beans, washed and tipped
  • 1 TBS sesame oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 TBS soy sauce
  • 1 TBS white sesame seeds
  • 1 TBS black sesame seeds

Heat oil, soy sauce, and garlic in a large pan. Cook for 1 minute, then add string beans. Stir fry for approximately 6 minutes. (Cooking time depends on desired level of softness. I like mine cooked through but not mushy.) Add sesame seeds, stir to combine and plate.

In less than 10 minutes, you can make a lovely side that both looks and tastes amazing. This pairs well with salmon or chicken, plus rice or potatoes for a complete meal.
