Looks like the stereotype of the standoffish, scholarly Rabbi will be shattered for good.

JTA.org has an interesting article about Akiva Neuman, otherwise known as the “Ninja Rabbi” for recently competing on the popular competition show American Ninja Warrior.

I initially assumed this had to be a Reform rabbi, but the fact that he’s Orthodox was surprising. His story is not only inspiring, it’s thoroughly modern as well. The Orthodox have long had a reputation for avoiding athletics so this is a nice step closer towards the rest of us. I especially liked reading about how his wife not only plays basketball, she beats him!

I’ll definitely be tuning in tonight at 9:00PM when the show airs, keeping my fingers crossed for the Rabbi.

Super Savings Saturday – 6/25/16

cvkcv

Welcome to another edition of Super Savings Saturday!

I’ve taken the last 2 weeks off from posting because I haven’t bought anything. Every closet, shelf, and cabinet was completely overflowing and instead of adding to the chaos, I spent a good deal of time sorting. Most I kept, some was donated, and a very few items were tossed. Everything is in much better order now, thank goodness! (How long it actually stays that way, however, is anyone’s guess…) Taking an occasional break from couponing reminds just how much I truly do love it.

I only shopped one store on Friday afternoon, but I still came home with lots of cheap goodies. They had everything I wanted in stock, except for a moneymaker deal on Almay eyeshadow and mascara.

CVS:

3 Kleenex tissues, sale price $1.00. I stacked a $0.75/3 manufacturer’s coupon with a $1.00/3 store coupon. Total: $1.25, plus a $0.50 Checkout 51 rebate!

2 Starbucks iced coffee, regular price $1.99 plus BOGO. I used a $1.00/2 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.50 each!

2 Fig Newtons, sale price $0.99. I used a $0.75/2 manufacturer’s coupon. Total: $0.62 each!

1 Viva paper towel, sale price $4.99. I stacked a $1.00 manufacturer’s coupon with a $1.00 CVS App coupon. Total: $2.99.

Calisher Glass Mezuzah Giveaway

ca

Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve loved to collect Judaica. Over the years, I’ve slowly built up a nice collection, avoiding the cookie cutter pieces, and seeking out original designs. Some I love too much to part with and others I buy intentionally to pass along.

In my experience, a Mezuzah is always a great choice. (For those who may not be familiar with them, a Mezuzah is a parchment prayer scroll covered by a case that’s affixed to the doorpost of every Jewish home.) Since they’re always on display, they’re not only practical, but can also be enjoyed daily.

While every Judaica company sells Mezuzot, they’re not all the same. I’ve seen everything from basic to intricate, but the ones created by Calisher Glass are truly phenomenal!

This art glass studio produces exquisite pieces that are comprised of Dichroic glass (a special type of glass that displays two different colors by undergoing a color change in certain lighting conditions). Though some may look similar, no two pieces of custom glasswork are ever the same. Every design is an original and handmade by the artist who’s been perfecting her craft for 20 years.

Calisher Glass generously offered to let me review some Mezuzot. Because glassware can be difficult to photograph, these pictures do not do them justice! In person, they are even more beautiful and exceptionally shiny. They’re substantially thick without being too big and will look equally nice when hung in a vertical, horizontal, or angled position, per your preference/custom.

I love the contemporary look, colorful swirls, and girly vibe! For those who are seeking something unusual, Calisher Glass is happy to collaborate with clients and make their dreams come true.

One lucky winner will receive a redemption certificate from the artist, good for any Mezuzah they choose! Simply enter the giveaway before July 15. Good luck…
