Pumpkin Spice in August? No Thanks

Correct me if I’m wrong: pumpkin spice is supposed to be a Fall favorite. Or, it used to be, back when we actually stuck to the seasons. Now, it seems like they’re pushing everything much earlier than needed. Even though it’s still August, and most of us are experiencing 90-degree heat, restaurants are in a competition to put out the pumpkin.

  • Starbucks is releasing the PSL on August 27th
  • Dunkin Donuts is releasing their Pumpkin menu on August 21th
  • Dairy Queen will have Pumpkin Pie Blizzards on August 26th

7-Eleven, however, has beaten them all; their Pumpkin coffee is already in stores today. (FYI: If you want one, it’s only a dollar.)

And it’s not just the big guys. A local coffee shop that I like has pumpkin cookies and pumpkin drinks on the menu, starting September 1st, along with apple cider and apple muffins.

While I truly love pumpkin flavor, I enjoy it more when it’s a specialty flavor, with a limited time offer, rather than daily fare.

Oh, and while we’re on this topic, my local Walmart already has Fall decorations and Halloween signs in the aisles! Too much, too soon, I say. Let me enjoy Summer when it’s actually still Summer.

My husband is already burning the pumpkin candles (which I hate, too spicy scented for me). I have already seen the Halloween candy in the stores. I can’t even find my favorite Wylers Ice Pops because the clearance stuff is gone and I’m sweating here. I don’t even get excited with the holidays anymore. I love Thanksgiving because it is all about having turkey once a year (sometimes we make it 2 times). Nothing seems special anymore, it’s push push push the products. I like the simple life.

The pace is frantic, that’s for sure. I also want to slow down. We used to eat Wyler’s pops when I was growing up. Haven’t thought of them in decades! I loved those. Things sure were calmer back then. I wish we could go back, as a society, to a life that’s more family and community focused, instead of the consumer culture.

I like pumpkin spice flavoring but do not like to see it this early. I also saw Spam advertising the flavor… and yes I do like Spam (grew up on it it was a cheap meat) but I say a big no to it flavored like that I hope it is a joke.

I love pumpkin and wish I could find pumpkin pie year round. There are some things that would be good year round and pumpkin anything is one of them.

I like that pumpkin flavored drinks are available beyond the Fall season. I love egg nog and wish it was available all year round.

I went to the grocery to purchase the roll sugar cookies with the pumpkins on them. My grandson was coming up for Halloween and he loves to bake cookies with me. The man in the daily section told me that those came into the store in August and had been long gone???

August for pumpkin cookies? See, this is absurd. They push things a full season in advance. That’s just crazy. My littles love to bake as well. I hope you were able to find those cookies at a different store.

I’m on the fence with this one lol. I like when they release things around the proper time of year… but I really like pumpkin spice lattes.
