Three Cheers for Patricia Arquette

a3

Three cheers for Best Supporting Actress winner, Patricia Arquette, who devoted her Oscars acceptance speech to advancing women’s rights and wage equality. Not only is she a beautiful person, inside and out, she is very talented, as evidenced by her 12-year devotion to Boyhood.

Her words were rightfully met with wild applause by such big names as Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez.

It is so impressive when a public figure uses their platform for the common good. I’d love to see more speeches like this in the future. Hollywood gets a bad reputation for being all fluff, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

If you are going to endorse this socialist crap, I am unsubscribing. Women already have equal rights in this country. That is why Congress enacted the equal rights amendment. These Hollywood types need to go back to school.

R U friggin kidding me? “Socialist crap” You need school, not Hollywood. Women do NOT have equal rights. Look at the justice system.

I liked her acceptance speech too. Her comments backstage — implying that the fights for LGBTQ rights and for black rights are over — I was less thrilled about. I’m sure it was just poor phrasing on her part, though, and her point that we all need to be fighting together is a good one.
